This! Yes I completely agree with all of this.
Truthfully I find it kind of stupid how much people on these boards are panning the critics. It just seems childish to me

Yeah okay. I heard there's tons of fight and actions scenes in this one. Thanks.

They need all the time they can get.

I am pretty positive that all the complaints people and critics had for rotf were direct results of the fact that Kurtzman and Orci had no time to work on the project, thanks to the writer's strike.

They literally spent two weeks coming up with a "story" and then had to go fight for their rights or whatever.

If you recall, Michael Bay actually wrote a good portion of movie, because he didn't want to wait for the real writers to finish striking.
We have now learned that Michael Bay is not a writer.

Here's a quote from wikipedia of what happened:

"Screenwriting was interrupted by the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike, but to avoid production delays the writers spent two weeks writing a treatment, which they handed in the night before the strike began,[95] and Bay expanded the outline into a sixty-page scriptment,[96] fleshing out the action, adding more jokes,[95] as well as selecting the majority of new characters"

As a result of these shenanigans, we ended up with a weak story that was effects-driven and not very clever, just a spectacular mess... the script was really half-assed.

but now, you've got to ask yourself. If revenge of the fallen was half-assed, what would transformers 3 be like? With both the even huge-er special effects budget and real development time they have to make a quality script.

Chances are we'll be able to get a great character-driven story with some depth, and also lots of giant robots fighting. It could quite possibly be the best movie ever.

If you've seen the new Star Trek, you know that the writers are capable of it... "I have seen goodness in them."

...but only if they actually take their time to write it this time, and keep Bay's fingers out of the plot.

I think that's a pretty pathetic 4th of July weekend take to be honest. But then again, it's not like I care to really see the movie again. Barely cared enough to see it once.

I somewhat agree, however considering that it was 4th of July and around here, at least, it was the 1st nice weekend where we saw sunshine after like 20 some days of clouds and rain....I'm not surprised movie theaters were less busy.

QFT. After a month of nothing but rain I can see people wanting to go out and having a cookout and hanging out and enjoy the weather.

Plus look at the numbers ROTF pulled in it's first week. Basically everyone who was planning to see it, saw it. I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of people who went to see it this time were going for second viewings.

everyone has to remember that without the 16 million added for the midnight showing the second week would be lower. The dropoff isn't as bad as people are making it out to be. People are still watching the movie more. I still believe it will break 400 million domestic before it leaves theaters.

Most of the time, the 4th of July falls on a weekday, creating an extended holiday weekend. With the 4th being on a Saturday this year, many families were outside enjoying the nice weather, rather than going to the movies, and many probably didn't have an extra day off. At my theatre, we had really good attendance on Friday, a drop on Saturday, and a slight increase on Sunday. People just weren't going to theatres during fireworks. Knowing a few other people across the industry, this wasn't an isolated trend. Plus, lots and lots of people have already seen TF2 by now, and for many, while it was enjoyable, it just isn't the kind of movie that the general populace is going to take in repeat viewings of, a la Dark Knight.

EDIT: The other thing working against Ice Age was the limited number of 3-D screens it was playing on. Since those screens, like the IMAX upcharge, increase revenue pretty easily, the lack of them probably hurt Ice Age's box office take. At my theatre, we only had one 3-D copy, and kept one 3-D theatre of Up. If Up had been doing more poorly, we probably would have had 2 3-D screens of Ice Age, or at least split the showings 50/50 between the two.

    Woot! Congrats ROTF!

If he isn't too busy writing more reasons why he "hate, hate, hates" ROTF, that is. :ev:
