This is the last time I'll beat this particular drum, but allow me to paint a picture for you folks:

Imagine we finally begin to see more about a possible Beast Wars film, finally after all these years... you wanna see a movie with all the characters you remember in live action, mind-blowing CGI for the first time in a more realistic setting. Instead what you see are designs that barely resemble who you remember, and personalities that seem practically unrelated whatsoever. Optimus Primal is now a trigger-happy soldier with a short temper, Rattrap is a sheepish bookworm, Rhinox is nothing more than the muscle of their team, Waspinator is now an edgy, creepy abomination, and the characters as a whole just seem to have a passing resemblance to the originals. It's almost like the creators and designers went out of their way to avoid resemblance to the original show as much as possible.

Now imagine a ton of younger fans now getting an interest in Transformers, beast Wars in particular because of the shiny new movies with the expensive CGI. Now imagine them telling the fans of Beast Wars who have been with the franchise for decades at this point that their stupid show from the 90's is really lame and that the characters + designs in the movies are much better and that they need to let go of their nostalgia. That any criticism is all thrown under the same umbrella of "rUiNeD fOrEvEr1!". People passionate about Beast Wars are told to grow up, that the designs from the toyline or show were too cartoony to ever be rendered in a realistic manner and etc.

Now imagine this Beast Wars finding a foothold with general audiences and sticking around for 10 years or so.

Maybe now all the complaints of the "geewunners" start to make a bit more sense? Just something to think about. I'm not trying to start a fight or throw shade at people who genuinely like the Bay films, but given the opportunity I wished to try and help those who consider themselves to be hardcore fans of those films understand how older fans felt.

At the end of the day, as has been repeated by many at this point: This is old concept art. I still find myself liking it, I think it's an impressive design that I can appreciate a bit more when I separate it form who it's meant to be... but if you're someone who is worried about Beast wars being 'ruined', yet have given "geewunners" a hard time in the past, perhaps this is a good opportunity to do some navel gazing.

 

Whelp there goes any hope I had for these movies. That looks like complete shit. I don't care it it does hurt the artist feelings, that is a complete turd of a design with absolutely zero redeeming qualities. Let the hyper detail bayverse design style die already. I've seen fan animation with better looking designs. Shame, shame on you

Some people only know how to do one thing which is scream and cry when they see something that's different and scary to them. This thread is actually a bit sickening. See the post I quoted above this. They literally said "shame on you" like they're drawing child porn or something.

You can't be serious. Sure the movies aren't great and not all the designs look pleasing to the eye, but to say they need to stop taking creative liberties is actually stupid. Maybe that's why this franchise is so stagnant, retelling the same stories over and over again. The same designs being released as toys over and over again. Because of people like you. God forbid someone has an idea that may or may not improve upon its source material. Things change, get over it. This is just one rendition of characters in a large franchise, you aren't being held at gun point to watch it. You act like these designs are fucking crimes against humanity but they aren't. You're so stuck in this mindset that you can't see what could be. These artists have so much potential and deserve to see at their visions realized at least in concept. Go cradle your precious Geewun toonshit and cry about it. These designs are created to introduce a new audience, if you don't like it cool, but don't suggest that creative liberties should stopped being taken. Without these creative liberties we wouldn't have Beast Wars, the Unicron Trilogy, or even Animated. So please for the love of God shut the fuck up. No one gives a shit about your complaining. Go back to your shitty little hole, curl up in your blankets, clutch your G1 Optimus and fucking cry about it.

 

I like the robot mode. But it looks too much like a cheetah. I would expect the final design to display more alien style.

Yeah this looks god awful, not even as a “oh it doesn’t look like the cartoon” I mean even as an independent design this does not look good like at all

just make him turn into a real cheetah, make them turn into real fucking animals we can deal with it, robot modes, go crazy, but please just real animals, not this horrible robotic animal garbage

 

The beast mode looks forgivable but the robot mode upper torso essentially looks like...nothing? Hard to say but when I see these images, I dont think Transformers, not even close, the robot mode especially, it looks like nothing at all. Maybe these were going off the early 2007 style of TF, hopefully newer BW concepts aim closer to home with a 110% redesign ground up having absolutely nothing to do with this.
