Was this line Transtech?
I like that Optimus sketch
Love seeing these pre-production concepts. They\'re always so unusual!
Fun! Still like the end result tons better, but they definitely tried some interesting things back when it was in development as 'Heroes'.
And yes, add me to the list of people who wants to see that Rhinox released somehow!
I'd love to see this style revisited. It's so energetic and organic, but not a carbon copy of the final TFA aesthetic. Just needs some more refined details. So much better than the basic and lifeless lines of RID and Cyberverse.
These designs are giving me mayor Tatsunoko vibes for some reason.
Am I the only one who gets strong Megaman vibes off these?
Ooh I like them very much.
For the last two definitely. More specifically Inti-Creates MM designs. For the first two not so much.
Yes, the Megaman feels are strong with these guys, but I also get a sense of Big Volfogg and Braves/Yuusha mecha shows that followed from TF:Victory, particularly with the 4th Ninjabot who I guess is Prowl.
And, Rhinox reminds me a bit of the construction mecha from the Yuusha line as well, particularly Goldymarg, but that might just be a matter of having only seen GaoGaiGar! =D
Oh, and Rhinox looks a touch like Paiman from the later Gatchaman Crowds~
Spoiler: Paiman Roar, Animated
There was Transformers Go a few years back, but I haven’t seen it. Still, Wikipedia notes that it was a short form and even shorter run series than Cyberverse is shaping up to be.
Moreover, I’d be down for a Trigger, Bones, or Production I.G. Transformers anime! ^.^
I was thinking Blurr, but it could be a fine chassis for Stardrive, perhaps.
I still haven’t read the Rom Comics, but she won my adoration from her appearances in OP and Unicron. I’m among the select who also likes Livio’s style, so it was pretty wild to see here with the vampiric ribbon. And, I dig the Venom-lite stuff going on with her. It would be easy enough to just wrap those tendrils around her and give her a Bioboosted Guyver Armor so that Stardrive can retain some nod to her Solstar Armor should she survive the reboot. And then there could be a Fem-Magnus of sorts.
Oh man, these are wonderful! I'd love to see what the designs for the Decepticons would have been. Maybe in an artbook someday...
I would like to see a stand alone figure of this.
Also IIRC, it was an offshoot of Transformers Prime. A full 30 minute (or even a killer OVA) series by any of the studios you mentioned would be dope. Hopefully, Hasbro would import it to the States.
Those last 2 bots are definitely giving off some Battle Network vibes to me. I’d be very intrigued to see how these designs would work in the show and in toy form especially with today’s engineering.
Love this Optimus. Would love to see an Altmode
Stardrive is already mostly designed to spec, she doesn't need much in the way of changes. Her car mode and bot form needs to lean more on Strongarm like it does.
Blur needs to maintain some of his classic designs more, though I am a fan of his animated design, I tend to favor his G1 design the most while Animated Blur's design does need some thing to include it, I'd rather that be a complete new speedster bot.
So this, like how you pointed out Animated Blur/reminded me of animated Blur(staring at my avatar as I type this), would make a great partner to a new speedster bot. Like a new heroic duo from Velocitron that mimic Jessie Quick and maybe Wally West from CW's Flash, or some other speedster/speedstar combat duo like that.
Now you got me curious about how the John Fox flash colors would look on it, or the Walter West Silver and red. Or even the XS purple. Hasbro should definitely consider doing a pair of "SpeedStars" from velocitron. Could really help elevate Blur too since he'd be more veteran champion and they'd be more 'heroic up and comers" that look up to him. Always room for new characters.
I was getting those vibes too.
Optimus makes me think of Guts Man, due to his faceplate/jaw and the big guy makes me think of a combination of Spark Mandrill and Stone Man.
They look like Robot Masters from Mega Man. I dig it.
That's one cheeky looking Optimus.
The first thing that I thought of for some reason was Cyborg 009, art style wise, but Megaman is also very apt. There are many other animes that have that style to em that I can't quite place though at the moment.
Animated was around back when Takara had the Megaman/Rockman EXE rights and Hasbro had them domestically. So that may not be too far off actually. The designers would have been coming off of that not long before.
Also explains the Bulkhead repaint too that was very gutsman EXE.
Transtech was some heavy influences in Animated designs. Lockdown, Blur, and Cybertronian mode Optimus were heavy Transtech influenced.
