Ape film was almost entirely cgi and the apes were given very good charactizations. Transformers should be inspirated by that. I vote for a semi-reboot again for the next film.

In that it should contain apes, such as Optimus Primal? I concur.

I'm not talking about Transformers goes all primal, but that they can use bots to be the prime focus of the movie.

We already did that in AOE.

And There were humans in Dawn too.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is an excellent film because everything everyone does is logically motivated. There's never a single moment of things just happening, everything traces back to previously established goals and reasons for wanting them. It's quite a contrast to the meandering, largely nonsensical way the Transformers films just ramble on.

Plus, you know, competent filmmaking is on the side of Apes. It's a movie that just intrinsically knows how to establish information and how it's effecting an audience. A far cry from these movies, which just play into generically "cool" affectations with every choice, which a depressingly large number of people are willing to forsake telling a story for.

Oh, and inb4 "That other movie sucked 'cause [insert nonsense here]!"

No, we categorically did not. Characters having a certain zany personality type doesn't equate to having logical motivations and goals, which is the essence of drama.

It wouldn't even be 1/4th as good as Dawn.

A Prime Focus of the movie? Yeah! That sounds great!

Transformers 5: Optimus Primal goes Bananas!

It could be a riveting character piece based on Gorilla Warfare and Call of the Wild, centering around Primal's descent into violent madness, Heart of Darkness style...

If by being like Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, you mean "The relationship between humans and the Other Species disintegrates as the result of the events of the previous film to the point of humans launching an all-out war against the ENTIRE Other Species, with the Other Species' Leader and His Number-Two Man coming to mortal blows against each other in the climax", then yeah, I could get behind it.

I don't want another semi-reboot, I want a full reboot, as in throw out Bay, and everyone else, and start fresh. But yes, it should be like Planet of the Apes.

it would be nice if the decepticons won for once.. eliminate a majority of the population.. make the autobots the true underdog band of warriors.. i think that'd be neat.

Unfortunately, monkeys are MUCH cheaper characters to CGI than Transformers.

Apes had a TON more CGI than TF4 did, even if it's arguable that any given CGI model is more difficult in TF4. I suspect TF costs are more heavily skewed towards the location shooting, stunts, and explosions than they are towards CGI, in this day and age.

No, the most difficult thing to make CGI from an ape is it's hair. Transformers has far too many different characters with constantly moving parts and pieces.

Also, Waffles posted a link somewhere around here where CGI artists aren't getting paid enough or something along those lines.

Yes, because doing a reboot after a cliffhanger is a GREAT idea..

So don't think you can really call AOE's ending a cliffhanger.

Uh yeah, it was. Optimus announcing his arrival to his creators while jetting off into space.

No, that's the PERFECT way to end the Movies..

I could live with that. Especially since knowing Bay's consistency, the Creators will probably not have a big role, if any.

Na, a cliffhanger suggests some kind of imminent peril, or a sudden an exponential story twist, that the audience is forced to leave unresolved, and desperate to see the outcome of. AOE just left the door open for a potential continuation of the story, which knowing these movie's sense of narrative, will probably largely be ignored in TF5.

The production meeting about AOEs ending was like:

"How about Prime has a monologue!"
"Yeah it can be directed at his creators"
"Yeah he can look up into the skies while shaking an angry fist"
"What if he was actually flying into the skies, at them?
    "Can Prime fly?"
    "... ... sure!"
    "Alright, let's do it!"
