So on the 3rd page in the first pannel, is this guy:

Bases on a go bot/machine robo design? Because to me they look like that one truck robot from those that got a new toy recently.

They are definitely using a lot of OCs, yes, more than I'd expect. I'm just wondering if they are limited in the number of known canon/long-established characters they can use due to them needing to look like their toy version, so if there isn't a toy (or toy in the works) maybe they fall back on OCs?

Rung has a legacy now, being Primus and all. Froid does not.

Might be. I think he's been shown on an upcoming cover.

Okay quick question, are there any other notable psychologist transformers to replace Froid with here?

Or you could just use a version of Rung who isn't Primus. Easy! We've had multiple versions of characters throughout the years. So, you never know.

But, like I said, seeing Froid gives me hope for seeing others like Nautica, Velocity, Riptide, and so on. Rung just so happens to be my favourite of the bunch.

Okay, this is looking pretty damn impressive. Not only do we have... a genuinely fresh take on things, but we are getting Froid! Quake! Theres a lot of backstory here that feels fresh, and I love it.

Froid is a psychiatrist. In the old IDW continuity, he was the contemporary of Rung, another psychiatrist. Though Froid in the old continuity - and evidently to a degree in this one as well - tends to bend morality when it suits him. He did this excessively in the old continuity, even going so far as to make a deal with a serial killer, just so he could study them.

I was still a little unsure about this new reboot, but if they're introducing Froid as early as #3, then it's the greatest Transformers continuity of all time as far as I'm concerned.

The emphasis on telling over showing is starting to drive me nuts. We're told a lot about this version of Cybertron, but without being able to see much of it for ourselves, that means exceedingly little. The closest we've gotten to actually seeing much of this world is the moon unfurling from the second issue and the ape things from the first, and both of those are cool, but so much of these comics have been spent expositing. Yes, I get that this is an introduction to a new version of the mythos-- exposition is a given-- but it's all delivered so dry and the frankly stilted artwork doesn't help matters.

You know what would have been a better approach? Start the issue by having one of the other Ascenticons approach Quake before Megatron's speech. Through this conversation we can glean bits of Quake's history (like the war that apparently took place in living memory, contradicting the whole "first murder in living memory" deal but that's a whole other issue) and more importantly his fetishistic love of violence. Have him demonstrate glee when contemplating the worst-case scenario because he knows that's going to give him an excuse to get his hands dirty again. The other Ascenticon talking to him, unsettled by this, is quick to remind Quake that they're trying to avoid that at all costs-- they want a peaceful revolution, not a violent one-- and Quake scoffs "yeah, that's how they always start" or something along those lines. Then the two wander off and then we get Megatron addressing the other Ascenticons like at the beginning.

Yeah, I know it's not great, but it's better than this.

Froid...implications are weird. Could this be an alternate universe connected to the previous multiverse?

Yeah I've noticed that too, it's not bothering me as much, but it's still irksome.

But we would expect him to be Primus now. There’s no getting around that, and idw knows it.
