Apparently an agreement couldn't be reached and now instead of a three week shoot, it's been reduced down to three days. This includes cutting the race scene at the Washington Monument. Click the link for the full story. "Transformers 3" filming dates revealed - @TBD Arts | TBD.com
I'm very disappointed in this. Of course, said race probably would have done little to advance the plot, but it sure as hell would have looked cool. Ever since I heard of the idea of them doing this, it got me excited. I just wonder if this is going to throw a wrench in the whole production cycle. I'm hoping they can film footage in D.C. and composite the race and other scenes in post. I'm sure there had to be a backup plan in case they didn't get to shoot there.
It's not just the race scene. They had three weeks worth of filming planned. Who knows what all they have to cut out/trim down to fit into a three day schedule.
The article didn't specifically say the race scene was being cut. It just mentioned that filming at the Washington Monument was not approved. The National Mall is large enough that a race could still be filmed without even coming near the monument. I don't really think this news comes as that much of a shock after the reports of DC license plates on cars at the Chicago filming.
i love the race scenes but oh well and if they cant do it in DC they can probably find somewhere else just as good. And if the actual place of DC was subpost to be in the movie then i can see them finding a way to make it look like/convince people the scene is in DC even though it was filmed eslewhere
This what i suspect they will do, just use some Hollywood magic to get the race what ever other scenes they have planned done using green screen and computer work to pull it all together. Its a shame they got cut down on shooting time by so much.
Too bad. Hope they focus on getting the important stuff in the 3 days they have and it doesn't gut a vital part of the movie. I suppose now all the money that would've gone to shooting those scenes in DC will go to greenscreen and ILM.
