We just got our first details of IDW's reboot for the TF comics, set to begin in March 2019. Releasing two issues a month, the comic will start before the War For Cybertron, leading up to a major death that kickstarts the war. Bumblebee is confirmed to be a main character, and judging by the covers revealed, Optimus, Megatron, Prowl, Windblade, and Chromia will also be important characters.

So what are your guys thoughts on Transformers 2019? You like the idea of this comic starting before the war? Do you want to see the comic head to Earth eventually? Leave your thoughts below!

Also, here are the covers for what I assume is #1 and maybe even #2, by Casey Coller and new artist to the TF comics Gabriel Rodriguez. Looks like the characters will be heavily inspired by the Siege toyline.

One interesting thing to note is in Rodriguez's cover; Megatron doesn't have a Decepticon insignia, yet Optimus, has Autobot ones...

I think it’ll be cool to see the continuity begin pre-war. The character choice makes me kind of afraid the comic will tread the same ground IDW did. Idw treaded some damn good ground but I would like to see this comic take advantage of its opportunity to be different. No idea how good this will turn out but I will definitely pick it up out of curiosity. It should be refreshing seeing a new voice after so much Barber and Roberts.

The art is more closely tied to the toy designs than we've seen in a while. I wonder how long that will last, since it seems inevitable for them to introduce characters faster than they'll come out. The Siege aesthetic is strong on these covers, so even including characters like Windblade, who has multiple recent toys, could be risky. Unless Hasbro is feeding info to the artists, which I think has happened to some degree with the old continuity.

Windblade and Chromia will probably still be from Caminus, which is the case in the Cyberverse cartoon. That may just be part of the lore now. It would be neat if the other colonies were involved from the beginning as well.

I think it'll be a lot of fun seeing a new and different origin for the Transformers...

...if only they make it different and unique from what came before.

Would be nice to know if the guys bring any kind of fan credentials. Rodriguez's art looks very detail-orientated, and not in the way that I like. Rivets and seams do not necessarily make for good art. I know nothing about the author. I hope this was a book he pitched for, and wasn't one he was merely assigned. I don't want to go down the Costa road again.

Looks like we got the pre-war / toy tie in setting, which I think most of us were expecting.

I realize IDW isn't exactly a huge, domineering force in the comics industry, but I really wish we could get some bigger names who are into Transformers. No disrespect to anyone involved, but they are going to have to work hard to prove their worth. That sounds harsh, but these days, that's just the way it is. The bi-weekly schedule means we will be like at least six issues deep in orders before seeing one issue. That's a lot of money to go on blind faith.

Nothing here to pique my interest yet. Sounds incredibly tired. That's not to say they won't be able to make it work.

Meh. Same old song and dance.

Doesn't mean it won't be good, but I think I'll pass for now.

Said bigger names would probably have to work at a significant discount, I would think.

The press release makes it sound like pre-war Cybertron may have been a genuinely great place this time around.

Sounds interesting. I'd like to think in some way this is taking a bit of inspiration from Cyberverse

I like the first cover, not so keen on the art of the the second. I have a feeling certain character traits from IDWs last run are going to carry over. I’m in regardless, am excited to actually read about the war and what led up to it. The flash backs were some of my favorite arcs and scenes from the last run.
