    Hey guys,

Just a quick question I was hoping someone on here would have the answer to: What does the original 1986 Transformers Movie poster look like? I've seen two; one that has a light blue bar at the bottom containing the credits for the film, and another that has the credits over the artwork. I'm guessing maybe one was reprinted from the vhs/dvd artwork and the other is the original. Help would be appreciated. Thanks!

So, you're just looking for images of the poster itself?

Let me google that for you

Sorry, I guess I'm just not exactly sure what you're specifically asking for...

*Man, I love that poster artwork.

I politely asked a question and because you didn't understand it you decided to be rude and condescend to me like I've never learned how to use Google.

I'll clarify for you since you're having trouble.

There are two posters I've seen on the web including places like eBay, Amazon, and yes, Google that are for the 1986 Transformers animated movie. I'd really like to purchase one and would like to get the original poster as it was in 1986. I'm just not sure which one is the original. I've seen them both sold as "original" reprints so that's why I'm asking.

Going to totally guess that the first one is the theatrical release poster, and the blue-box one is for something like a home video release, or maybe a foreign market. Variants of posters do exist due to print runs, however.

You'll have to forgive my "ignorance", BAD MOON, you just had a very roundabout way of asking "which of these two posters [hint, if you've got the images, share 'em post-haste] is the theatrical poster and which is the home video release cover?". And now that I do understand what exactly you're asking...

This is my legitimate guess as well. That kind of banner/border is more common for home video releases, while movie posters aren't as "obstructed" as the one with the bar. Though, as I said, that's just my guess. It could be the opposite or there could be no rhyme or reason to it at all.

I don't think you're ignorant. I just think you could have asked me to clarify what I was asking without the "let me google that for you" link. I thought that was rude. I think you may have thought it was rude as well because the next thing you said was, "sorry". Not a big deal and not the point of my thread obviously. I'm guessing that no one knows which poster came first. Thank for the help.

It's also possible that the blue-box poster represents a change made either before or after the other one, looking at the color of the lettering. It could be it was changed from the mauve and gold to red and blue as a method of obscuring rodimus being the eventual hero (which is something some care was taken to do in the time before the film was released) in favor of Ultra Magnus scheme, which is also the more familiar scheme for the brand logo (and could also be an explanation for the change).

I could maybe tell you more if you had bigger pictures of the posters, especially the text in that blue box.

Oh cool! I've never been to that site. $330 is a bit out of my price range though haha. Thanks for the link.

Good catch on the mauve & gold lettering. Here is a bigger picture of the poster.

I'm most interested in that fine print on the bottom, though its interesting to note that the blue-box poster contains only credits for the principal cast. Not sure what the implications of that is, but the other poster's info is somewhat more robust and conventional.

Maybe the blue-box poster is the canadian version, since it's printed by Aquarius in Canada?

I am most impressed by your knowledge of the film. Am I correct in assuming you are a big fan? It's one of my all-time favorite movies. I hope they put it out on Blu-Ray one day.

Regardless of a simple image search, the initial inquiry is still valid because when the movie was re-released by Rhino on VHS, the movie poster was re-released as well, thus adding to the confusion. I bought on at Botcon 2001. Mine isn't "original", but it's a re-release of the same poster:

It's a poster I got when I was 5 years old at the school's book fair. It's on one of the Rhino VHS covers: US vhs cover for "Transformers"

It was used more prominantly as the cover to the 80s Panini Sticker Album

That poster is a thing of beauty. I'm also very happy to see those catalogues on your wall!

To me this will always be the TF:TM poster design:

This is the reverse of the UK movie poster magazine released here to help promote the film, but I've got several other proper movie posters in my TF storage, including one from the cinema via a pal that worked there at the time.

I love the art that was used for the eventual Japanese release of the film.

Yup, I have a 24 x 32 framed version of this one with the TF movie text on the top left. Hanging right beside a framed edition of the North American poster, of course :)
