It's clearly doing well, so I guess for once we'll have to trust the company that's been making money off it for 30 years over your gut.

Ugh......this has nothing to do with my gut. When you advertise a product, you sell more. CW would likely be twice as successful with a cartoon (which we're getting at the end of the line instead of the beginning) or commercials, or any other wide range marketing. RiD wont sell forever. Its target audience will older and there's nothing for them to "graduate" to.

But are twice the sales enough to justify the costs associated with producing such a series, much less one to "our" standards? And how would creating yet ANOTHER Transformers series impact the other two?

And I wouldn't expect whatever the Machinima Transformers series ends up being to be called "Combiner Wars".

By that, where's the commercials for Marvel Legends? Or Star Wars Black?

Marketing cost money, and if sales are fine without it, why spend all the extra money on it? It's not the 80s or 90s, kids are very de-centralized so an effective marketing campaign can get VERY expensive, even before considering a series of some sort.

Yeah, it's not like Hasbro makes a more complex product range tailored to an audience older than RiD. Like Generations....

Remember, kids are where the money is at. And more often than not, tailoring a product to kids isn't going to endear a product range to collectors. But when targeted correctly, you get things like TMNT which is a success BECAUSE it puts kids sales first, not in spite of it.
RiD is bright and colorful to get kids into the brand or to offer a more complex narrative compared to Rescue Bots. As those kids age out, Hasbro's got the Generations line which is, in turn, more complex than what RiD offers.

Besides, Generations appears to be doing fine when you consider it still represents HALF the Transformers brand's total output.

RID is pretty much gone in my area. Some Legion Class and some Mini-Cons, with a few Deployers here and there, but most of it's completely gone. I haven't seen a Warrior Class outside of the TRU exclusives in quite a bit. All of my new RID stuff had to be mail ordered.

CW, for the most part is available only at TRU and in some cases, Target, but all of the Walmarts around me are completely free and clear of CW, save for one or two Deluxes here and there.

Part of it's due to the CNY and the current season, with everyone recovering from Christmas, but the figures *are* selling. I'm impressed by the numbers and I'm impressed that RID is actually selling.

Odd given that the numbers for the show itself aren't that good, as in next to know one's watching it, but... This is good news for us. The more they sell, the more CW/TR/?? comes along. Add in movie years and smooth sailing for us if the numbers keep holding.

my stores don't stock RID at all and only get one wave of the CW stuff (only deluxes and voyagers, which I usually buy one of everything then everything else slowly disappears over the rest of the week).

I can't speak to the rest of the nation, but they'd probably sell more here if they'd stock more.

There seems to be a lot of people who don't like the RiD line, but yet are keeping detailed notes on the sales of the product. I wish I had that kind of time.

Most of the places around me have pegs full of deluxe CW product, so I guess I can infer that CW doesn't sell and Hasbro should stop making Generations figures.

Well, I know at least the Walmart close to me is about to reset, perhaps they will stock both CW and RID2, cause right now there are not even empty pegs...it's like Transformers are not even an active toyline right now, and it's been that way at that one, and the 6 other store around me...

Target never replenishes either, and Kmart....well, you know Kmart.
TRU gets a trickle...but I'm not gonna pay 20 bucks for a deluxe...

I know that people have been griping ad nauseum about poor distribution, but it truly is ridiculous...you see pictures of all this great stuff, but none of it ever shows up...and at least around here that's odd. I know I can go online, and.I do get a few things that way, but I would rather buy it at a store...I can pick the one I want, and all that....

Out of curiosity's sake I updated the chart Hasbro showed last year with the information that 2015's sales were one-third lower than 2014.

The best performing non-movie year since 2008, which was still getting off the first film's movie high anyway.

And I'd like to point out that according to Hasbro the brand grew even more than it had before in Brazil, Russia and China, said growth in sales was just sadly offset in overall profit because of the international currency exchange rates biting non-USA sales in the ass this last year.

All of that points towards the brand doing well. Could it do better? Always, but right now we're at a pretty good moment and it shows that even in a year where Star Wars and Marvel and others are releasing big-blockbusters we can still get good results and growth.

Does the chart above take into account inflation?
I don't really know about any of this stuff and was just wondering.

Yes it does. The chart is of Hasbro's overall revenue after inflation and international taxes are taken into account, which is why the CEO pointed out that it would be even higher if it hadn't been for unfavorable international currency comparisons.
