Nope, hence the use of 'imagine'.
But you know I'm right.
It's the better buy if you care more about pinching pennies than you do about having the better looking figure, sure.
Honestly, that may be somewhat true if seen from the opposite direction: why would I throw pennies away for inessentials? The most important feature of an action figure is its playability not its looks. I'll never value a figure where the playability is essentially the same as another but has 200% mark-up for some paint touches and 4 hinged feet that add no significant play value.
Awesome! You just sold me on Beast Machines toys with one image.
Although I’m team TE due to their stricter adherence to show accuracy I still see the value of good old fashioned playthings like the Kingdom line. I’m a ‘poser’ so once I’ve painstakingly place a figure in a stance that works for me I then become super reluctant to move it for a long time so having a line of figures just for fiddling with is always a good idea to keep your inner child occupied.
Kingdom Airazor looks brilliant so I’d be intrigued to see what TE could conjure up for her. No doubt their shot at Cheetor will essentially be a micro MP although I’d love to see them attack Terrorsaur or inferno next.
Why not have both? That's my goal when I can afford it. Looks is part of the playability and enjoyment of a figure. TE looks better to me in both modes.
Not enough space...
I meant both looks and playability. Not both figures. I do understand the constraints of space. All the more reason not to worry about spending a little more to get a figure that is better to you. Having said that, I did buy Kingdom Rattrap even though I have TE Rattrap. Haven't opened him yet though, still deciding if I want to keep him or not. He's just $10 and I would like to support Beast Wars in mainline, so I'll probably keep him and just have him in opposite mode of the TE version on a different shelf.
Absolutely get both when possible ... and reasonable. I'm just not seeing a 3x value with TE's over the official one.
Now, on the other hand; there's no way HasTak will give us a BlackArachnia to compare favorably against TE's, imho. I'm sure the HasTak one will be nice but she'll be a larger class than TE's and thus should be held to different standards-versus-cost, imho.
Def open him. The double-knee joints let him get into cool leaping poses. He's a metric pain in the ass to figure the TFing the first time thru; but I'm loving what feels like a return to the 'basic' TFs being fun li'l full-on action figures like how the original Beast Wars line started out.
So I've had this lil Rattrap dude for months, but I recently picked up Kingdon Rattrap and I gotta say, for playability, Kingdom Rattrap is way better. TE Rattrap is just *too* flimsy for me to take off of a shelf. He looks absolutely stunning though, but one slight move will remove the little peg that goes into his rat nose thing and then he's flopping around like a weirdo.
I really wish TE put some extra oomph into helping us find a better way of locking the robot mode in place... It takes me forever to get the hinge behind the head in place for it to perfectly socket into the peg on the legs. I love him, but I'm a bit disappointed.
Okay but this is like saying a karaoke player is a better buy than a stereo system because your favorite thing is singing along to music. Not really comparing apples to apples.
Yeah, the both have their values. It really is personal preference. They're both great figures. One just doesn't (entirely) fall apart if you move him.
Well his shoulders kind of fall apart. Bad design there.
Agreed on that. They should tab in. I guess my point is you don't have to spend 45 minutes trying to get him back to the state he was in before it happened tho. Getting that multi hinge thing to line up perfectly is irritating on the TE one.
If the Kingdom figure didn't happen I would have bought this without question. But I really like how the Kingdom figure turned out so I don't feel the need for this.
No it's not. If you prefer looks over articulation, you are a statuary fan. It's not an insult, it's simply proper categorization.
Yeah, the tabs that swing Ratty's shoulders up need to lock-in better. I'm thinking of pushing the pins out and adding some filler to the sides to increase the friction tightness.
And if you are a "statuary fan", then the most important feature of an action figure is its looks, not its playability. So yeah, that fits right into my point.
Also, articulation isn't the same thing as playability. It's a separate, third category, which TE Rattrap does just fine in.
No, because statues are not action figures any more a photograph is a movie. Just because you're in the wrong field for what you appreciate doesn't mean the field encompasses its opposite. If you appreciate looks over articulation/playability (for action figures those are the exact same concept) then you're in the wrong place.
Quit defining words poorly.
Sorry but this post is utter nonsense.
For one thing, you're trying to muddy the waters with pointless semantic argument. I don't give a hoot what you define an action figure or a statue as, or what you label TE Rattrap as. You referred to TE Rattrap as an action figure first, not me, and now you're trying to bring up statues? Come on man.
Second of all, it's perfectly possible to display and articulate a figure without playing with it. A figure like TE Rattrap can be displayed in a variety of poses, plus it can be displayed in its alternate mode, unlike something like this, which cannot be articulated whatsoever. For whatever reason, you seem to want to ignore or obfuscate the distinction between a display piece with articulation and a display piece that has no articulation. I don't understand why you're doing this, but cut it out.
I think you are defining things poorly too. The key point of transformers is that they transform, so they aren't just action figures and they aren't just statues. They are their own category. I feel this conversation is going off the rails and kind of run its course. I think everyone understands the pros and cons between the different Rattraps now.
If anyone still has theirs complete w packaging and wants to let it go, LMK. I'm only able to still find it from OS sellers and I'm not sure I trust a figure that tiny to survive the Chinese Postal Service this close to CNY.
