Can you at least point out exactly why you feel the Second Fan recolour does not look like RID Scourge? Like what parts make it unrecognizable as RID Scourge?

Obviously I’m biased because I made the edit and love RID Scourge, but I’m just having a difficult time understanding why you feel it doesn’t look like RID Scourge, despite the colour palette, placement of the coloured details, etc.

To me he looks about 95% the same as the RID character. Which is a lot closer that the average Nemesis Prime repaint.

I think for me not seeing it as RID Scourge, or at least a new interpretation of him, is the fact that Scourge is different then the average Nemesis Prime in two major ways. In that he has an actual character, and that he wasn't simply a recolour of the same Optimus design he appeared in, so it feels like a bit of a disservice to him as just a repaint of Cybertron Optimus. I know that RID Scourge was a repaint himself, but many people didn't know about G2 Laser Optimus, so it felt neat that he wasn't simply RID Optimus in black.

It's not your fault, it's the shapes and there's nothing a digibash can really do about that. The shoulders for one thing, the wheels aren't on the legs, the proportions are way different, Scourge doesn't have a mouth and the alt-mode is totally wrong. But that's the issue, you can't really repaint any Prime into another one, because the colours are what stay the same and the shapes differ. It's like repainting G1 Prime to be more white and calling it Energon Prime.

Speaking of white if Cybertron Optimus Prime should be repainted into any villain I think it should be Nova Prime. At least then the remolding can do it.

So the issue you have is that not the colour design, but the mold?

That the colour design is not being applied exclusively to specific mold based on the Laser Prime Mold?

And that no mold should not be repainted into a different character?

Even though The entire Transformers franchise has been ripe full of repaints into different characters since the very beginning?

That's a weird hill to die on.

Especially when you're willing to make an exception for character Nova Prime.

So uh.. the white and grey prototype is missing a thumb, ain't that wacky and not at all divisive?

Personally I just prefer Scourge to be a different Prime repaint compared to whichever he's fighting on my shelf.

I can't tell if @samisham just isn't explaining things clearly or if the Scourge stans are being deliberately obtuse.

He's saying if you repaint Galaxy Convoy into Scourge everyone is going to look at it and say, "cool, they're doing a Nemesis Prime repaint" no matter how much gray you use and no matter what color his boob windows end up. Because 1000 dark Prime repaints called Nemesis Prime is a pretty clear pattern and that one time he was named Scourge instead is a statistical outlier.

I agree with this. IMO whenever an Optimus gets repainted in a combo of black/teal/grey/red, it's far more likely than not it gets referred to as Nemesis as opposed to Scourge no matter the minutiae of any given particular color layout. The notable exceptions are (unsurprisingly) releases that were originally based off the G2 Laser Prime mold to begin with.

Oh, yeah, you just reminded me that the Japanese name for Nemesis Prime was used for Scourge in Car Robots.

Interestingly enough, when we started using "Nemesis Prime" in English during Armada they called him Scourge in the Japanese version.

Was technically Optimus, yeah? I guess after they did the black Lio Convoy repaint they decided that black Primes are better as bad guys.

Huh. I thought it was earlier than that.

Then... I got no idea what Takara was thinking.

That is indeed what I'm saying.

    Also *she.

I never once said, or even implied that you can't repaint molds into different characters, where did you get that from?

Here's why Cybertron Prime to Nova Prime would work. Nova Prime is designed to look like Cybertron Prime already, he has wings, he has a super mode, he has the wing ears, he has a similar trailer that only forms armour. He has a pretty similar silhouette.

Scourge doesn't, he doesn't have a super mode, he has a completely different alt mode that has a totally different trailer that only becomes a base, his silhouette is totally different.

How do you not understand that I'm not saying "No repaints into different characters" I'm saying "This mold does not suit the choice of character for the repaint and it'll just be confused with someone else"?
