So one thing I noticed is that many characters from different franchises have a tendency to be amazing, and many characters have a tendency to show up in other universes. Lockdown, Lugnut, Bulkhead, Rattrap, Waspinator-all now in IDW. However, some characters are stuck due to being re-imagings of main characters. We most likely wont ever get an Optimus Primal or BW Megatron in IDW due to their names. Same especially for Animated Optimus. By far one of the best parts of Animated was the entirely different take on everyone's favorite leader. Now I know with Botcon, we got Ginrai as a differently colored Prime. So I begin to wonder -what would it take to get him in a more G1 universe? Purely a new name? New colorscheme? Both? Embrace your inner retcon-make him work. Same for any other characters that can't change over due to names/appearances
heh-its funny. I was about to say that the whole problem is him being named Optimus... but him sharing the name with their leader may be the source of all of his issues
Nah. He's such a great character, he deserves the name "Optimus Prime" more than even some other Ops. At least let him keep the first name and rank.
It's be really redundant. He's literally regular Optimus except younger. In fact, Animated is the only (canon) origin for Optimus that's truly satisfying.
Its bound to happen whenever names get reused, or when a 'reimagining' deviates too far from the source. Until you make up new names, you can never have g1 scourge and RiD scourge and UT scourge in the same show, and angsty armada starscream cant hang out with backstabbing g1 starscream.
Maybe make Animated Optimus's personality as IDW Orion Pax BEFORE he became a cop or cop in training. Maybe add in some animated ques to make a better reference
So imagining a Generations style Optimus Minor (love that name for him, even a bit of an Animated Rodmius nod) I figure he'd likely have his face showing... Maybe integrate the black like his toy had?
But that doesn't really account for why he's so awesome. Just like the librarian origin only explains why he's so smart, the super-cop origin explains his fighting prowess and burning sense of Justice... But not much else. Did know he's a medic? And a philosopher? And a scientist? Which is why I've always pictured him as a renaissance man (Bot?). And the Elite Guard training could account for all that.
I don't think the two could work together. He would either have to be 'regular' Prime from way in the past (IDW already covered that, but still), or he'd have to become a new character who would then always be in the other Prime's shadow (or worse, seen as a bad ripoff by some readers). Please leave Animated Prime as is.
If Hasbro was making a BW Megatron toy, I could see IDW having Megatron change bodies to turn into a purple dino. Starscream changed bodies because a toy was coming.
