Here's something I've been wondering. Would it be possible to place some kind of GPS transmitter in a car and then track its progress in real time from another location? Say if you put one in your car and your car was stolen, could you just log on and see where the car at?

They have systems like that already in place, but I have no idea how much it costs to subscribe to. Probably a lot.

I don't have any saved links, but they have bi-directional (via the cell phone network) systems that allow you to track your location on and off road and then if you need to call for help you can.

DEI (Directed Electronics Inc) makes a system like this. It's for anti theft and worried parents. It lets you track you vehicle from the net. Not sure of price. Also, if it's not you car that you're wanting to track, I think it's illegal. Just FYI.
