Classics Roddy. The legs on the TR seem a bit too slender.

i don't see how anyone can answer this yet when the tr version isn't even out. I'm still holding on to my g1 hot rod because I don't like the classics version. maybe the TR verion will chance my mind.

I'm hoping the eventual Takara version of TR Hot Rod wows me.

You are correct. I don't know why I mixed that up.

I have a feeling that like Scourge & Blurr? TR Hot Rod will win the day. My Classics Rodimus is currently in the Protector armor......so he wont be retired as such until Hasbro gives us Rodimus Prime. Which is BOUND to be next year IMHO.

The classics would felt dated even for 2006. I'll be replacing.

I think that's why I kind of like it, actually - I'm one of those 'toon accuracy' freaks you read about sometimes, and I kinda like the artifice and 'cel shaded' look the bright blue windshield provides, at least on that particular deco. It would look absolutely ludicrous on the standard Classics version (or any version of the mold that attempts to be more realistic) but for that particular color scheme I think it's awesome.

    Oh God
This is one I always regretted not picking up. Which do you think is better, this or MP28? (Though I spent so much on Carry I'm having trouble justifying another high end Rodimus.)

The TR version, based on pictures, is already a good looking update to the classics version. For some reason, I smell the possibility of an equivalent to the Fansproject Protector armor kit for it.

I use TFA Rodimus. He looks the closest to IDW Rodimus to me so thats what I use.

The only MP I have is Bumblebee, (for obvious reasons.) To my knowledge Alternator Rodimus was generally not sold in stores, iirc I got a decent ebay deal or something for mine. (I know I didn't pay a ton for him, not that Alternators are cheap to begin with.) It's kind of odd that MPs are priced so much more than Alternators were, and not that complex in comparison, at least in terms of the Bumblebee one. I was expecting a super complicated transformation that would force me to read the instructions, when in reality it was only slightly more complicated than say classics Bumblebee. Actually the MP Bee transformation reminded me of the old Gobot figure Zeemon, (which I had as a kid), a surprisingly complex figure for a Gobot.

    Alternators are waaay more complex.

How about waiting until TR Hot Rod is actually out and there are reviews before deciding?

Yeah I had a couple alternators back in the day, I recall. I just was wondering which you thought was the better figure, but since you don't have mp 28 I guess you can't say.

Bumblebee is also one of the few MPs I have and I agree I found him surprisingly small and simple. Not that I minded.

Went back and checked out the TR Hot Rod.
Alt mode nails it as far as I'm concerned.
Bot mode ain't bad... but the headmaster is definitely a downer tho.
Not the end of the world.
But his head looks like he has teddy bear ears :p
Kinda wishing they didn't make him a headmaster.

    Just hafta wait n see.

I have the Alternator, and as much as I love it, it is frustrating as hell. After the first time you take it out of vehicle mode, good luck getting the panels to ever line up again without gapping on one side or the other. Unless you have a large Alternators collection to go with it, I think I would skip it if I was you.

Carry is the one I don't have and desperately wish I did.

I like toon accuracy, too. And in the animated movie, you can see through the windshield (which -- when it is blue -- is a much darker blue to begin with), so that fails the "toon accuracy" test right from go, imo. For me, being able to see through the windshield is more toon accurate.

I'm waiting for Takara to show off their Legends version - then it'll be a toss up between that and the Animated figure with Hondasaint's head.

I'm a huge Roddy fan and I could never stand that Classics version. I'm anxiously awaiting the Titans Return one.

Classics Rodimus was cool when he came out, but he did not age well. I traded mine in for Japanese Animated Hot Rod, then when with CW Rodimus, just for the combining gimmick that I love. I plan on getting TR Hot Rod because CW Rodimus's days are done as are CW Optimus's.

Currently have my Classics (BIS) Hot Rod up for sale hoping to sell him off before the TR version is released. But he's a decent enough figure, I won't be terribly disappointed if he stays in my collection - especially considering we don't know how good the new figure is going to be.

But that being said, I'm enjoying the HELL out of the TR line - way more than I expected to, and wouldn't mind adding another headmaster to my collection. They're just a lot of fun to play with. (I am definitely NOT a headmaster purist - I'm really enjoying all the new headmaster figures.)
