My last Galvatron. After doing the previous custom, I had to do another one for myself with the awesome gray paint I used for the legs. I also wanted to take another shot at sculpting a new head and had an idea for an AB crunch and wrist covers/fillers I was wanting to try out. So, I bought another Galvatron and hacked it to bits. Mods include: -Wrist covers/fillers -New hands and wrists -Head sculpt (face and modified crown pieces from the stock figure, scratch sculpt noggin) -Fold in neck joint -My back spire mod -New shoulder spires to better match the G1 design. -AB crunch joint added -Cannon modified to be slightly shorter overall, with filler detail to kill the cockpit area. Also flattened down the mounting plate so it isn't as tall off the arm. -5mm hole on bicep, with stock holed filled in. -Full repaint using cool gray, silver deep blue and metallic purple. I have a few touch ups to do, but aside from those, I'm quite happy with the final result.
Many thanks everyone! The head was interesting. I used the stock face, but removed everything else so it was JUST the face. I then used some small styrene 'blocks' to map the total size, leaving a hole for the neck post. Once these were sanded into a general shape, I used putty to shape the head, then when cured, I sanded and added more putty until I thought it looked good. The horns are from the stock faceplate, cut and sanded until they looked right. They were glued into place, then a styrene strip was cut, sanded and mounted to make the back of the helmet. More putty was applied to smooth the transition, then the head was sanded again with ultra fine grit so it all blended.
Unfortunately, no WIP shots. I was on a roll and just went with it. The arm panels are drastically trimmed Constructbot pieces attached to a styrene rod fitted through drilled holes in the forearm. The pylons are a small section of a Combiner Wars H/F/G cut in half with added styrene to complete the block shape and for detailing. I had to cut and sand down the top of the torso to make them sit flush, then sand a bit of the swinging shoulder/torso part to allow it to pass under the pylon. Lots of small work.
It's the whole aspect of using polystyrene in aid of this to get it done I have trouble wrapping my brain around, never used it or seen examples of it being done. Looking at your work, it looks so smooth and cleanly done, but it feels like it couldn't be that easy to shape it.
With the right tools it works wonders. If you ever want assistance with some basics, please feel free to hit me up. My next project will be using a LOT of styrene.
No complaints here. Perfect! I have been looking hard to get shoulder spires to get the G1 style. I have V1 and a V2 wip. Look very good
I miss buying styrene I can only buy online. Hobbie Lobby had it for yrs. Now looking for a hobbie store that has it
Im confused on what you did to his face? It's one of the best Ive seen so far! Did you do something to allow the face to sit closer to crown parts? If Im guessing right you dremeld the inside of the helmet so the face go father in?
