So I previously posted my attempt to re-sculpt SS86 Blurr’s face (Minor/Repaint: - Studio Series 86 Blurr). I was ok with the result, but I felt like the cheeks and mouth still needed help. I’ve got another SS86 Blurr on preorder anyway, so I figured I could afford to get drastic.

I always liked the TR Blurr head, minus the headmaster gimmick. In fact, I own the Takara Legends Blurr, which still may be my favorite mainline iteration. But I also have a junker TR Blurr, so I figured I would try a face transplant.

I detached the TR Blurr face from his Titan master body (Hyperfire) and removed Hyperfire’s head (which is attached to a small ball peg). Then I split SS86 Blurr’s head along the seam, separating the front from the translucent light-piping back. I then cut the head off of the neck, leaving me with a hollow front neck half still attached to the ball peg. I trimmed down Hyperfire’s head, nested it into the hollow neck of SS86 Blurr, and glued it. The result looked like this:
    8B58C3C4-DAD5-4664-A485-ED4F31BB8B42.jpeg

Next, I attached TR Blurr’s face to this piece I bought a year or so ago from Nonnef:

This piece is meant to ‘round off’ the back of a TR face, for the purpose of de-headmastering figures.

I attached this piece to the back of TR Blurr’s face, then used needle files to round off the back piece to fit the contours of TR Blurr’s head. I also reshaped Blurr’s helmet a bit, to round it off some. I sprayed the new head with Tamiya grey primer, then painted the helmet, crest, and eyes, leaving the face grey. I attached this new head to the small ball peg from Hyperfire, while setting the large ball peg back in its intended spot on SS86 Blurr. This is the result:
    0A003153-90CD-4137-8E08-A33A04C0706B.jpeg 41BEF1DF-31E1-4D4D-8CA5-10146D4903C4.jpeg 6FBEBE1E-08C9-4CB5-B52E-15A76A940FA7.jpeg

Transformation and articulation are of course preserved. I need to touch-up the paint a bit, and I may trim down the Hyperfire ball peg in order to shorten the neck a hair, but I probably won’t. Ultimately, what I’ve got here is very similar to my LG Blurr, just without the Titan Master gimmick, with more articulation, but more arm kibble. I like it, and I’m happy to have him join my other Blurrs.

    Hope this was of interest!

That's pretty cool, might try and do that but with the IDW face from Shapeways

Very nice. Blurr has always been one of my favourite Autobots. I love the Takara Legends version. You've definitely improved SS Blurr. I don't care how well designed a figure is, if it's head is bad, it ruins the whole toy.

I still prefer the Titans Return mold because I like the idea of being able to sit a pilot in the cockpit.

    Excellent work!!

Good job, but I'm pretty sure that back piece is from the Nonnef kit for Titans Return Perceptor and not off of Shapeways.

Makes sense, since I buy a ton of stuff from Nonnef. Thanks for figuring that out!

I may try that with Headmaster Kup and SS86 Kup.

I'm going to have to design some parts to convert Blurr and Kup's faces from Titan's Return to fit the Studio Series bots. I'm sure they'd sell on Shapeways. This is a great idea and I was wondering if it could be done easily. I see now that it requires some modding.

That head looks so much better than stock that it makes the SS86 body look bad too. :lol

Does anyone know if this mod would work with SS86 Kup?
