This was unexpected. I figured everyone, but Japan would be seeing him again. He's selling for ¥17,999.

Interesting - I thought Hasbro and Takra weren't allowed to infringe on each other's territories?

The funny thing is,some of the Hasbro Transformers toys are actually more expensive than the Takara version in Japan.

Makes sense. Japan would presumebly have to import Hasbro figures --> middle men --> sales price mark up

Just like outside Japan, countries would have to import Takara figures --> middle men --> sales mark up

Unlike other MPs, Grimlock is a Toys R Us Japan exclusive. I assume all other Hasbro exclusives will come as well, same packaging and all now. Acid Storm was the first, and Grimlock is the second one.

Toys R Us is always expensive in Japan. If this were sold somewhere else, it'd be cheaper for sure.

Well they're both sold together via Hasbro Asia.

Takara also used to do a lot of USA Editions, releasing figures not available in their main lines via exclusive outlets.

This is just another example of that. They released MP Acidstorm in Japan in US packaging, he only had his designation changed for the TakaraTomy release.

It was my understanding that Hasbro Asia distributed to the non-Japan Asian countries. Also, IIRC, Japan/Takara released Acid Storm several months after the Hasbro/ Hasbro Asia release and there was advance announcement of such release.

$180 USD? Ouch. Dem's scalper prices. I'd rather get the Asia re-release and get the bonus crown and flame sword accessory instead for that price (and I did get it :D ).

That picture doesn't look like a Toysrus. Looks like a hobby shop who imported from an eBay seller.

That just looks like Mandarake. That's not a "mass" release. Just a hobby shop who imported.

Never been to Mandarake so I can't be sure, but this theory seems plausible.

Maybe the hobby shop is called "Toys US" and everyone just jumped to conclusions

    :lol  point taken! :D

But is sure does look like a regular hobby-specialist shop indeed. Wow, do all toy shops even official ones look like this in Japan?! :sly2:

I know I've been to Bit Camera and Mandarake shops in Akihabara as well as Departmental stores in Tokyo before, but never a Toys'r'Us Japan one. So yeah, apologies for doubting your story man.

    My bad.
