Funko owns ThinkGeek too doesn't it? Just because ThinkGeek is mostly Funko stuff. But, this would be interesting.

I hear you, but I would still say that those are symptoms of a culture that resists Modern Monetary Theory and puts forth NeoLiberal/NeoClassical Economics, which is all of an argument about how debt/leveraging should function.

It’s sad they’re closing, but in terms of product they never really had much. Other than exclusives they rarely had anything new, and I was able to find better stuff at Walmart or target for cheaper. Still, it’s sad to see them go and I hope they can find an answer but it’s not looking likely

Easier said than done! It may look good on paper but reality is a real life-sucking bitch!

What do we think would happen to the exclusives that go there when they do shut down? Is that going to be the end of MP's and MPM's in the states? Will another store pick them up?

Some of the larger Child World's made TRU look like a mom and pop operation in terms of sheer size

Come on MGA and Others band together and save Toys'r'us! It's the mecca for our kids, our nieces, and our cousins. We can't let this place go.

I wasn’t a Toys R Us kid growing up. My parents always went to Kiddie City. But they’ve been gone for 25 years now.

This may be why the liquidation trial/hearing was delayed.

Think on some (guess-stimated) numbers here. TRU's debt is around 6 billion. Their assets (value of the company name, owned real estate, inventory, cash on hand) MIGHT be worth 2 billion. They would be lucky to make that much cash after the liquidation is all done. So TRU's creditors stand to get seriously hosed if this goes wrong, they would be very lucky to get half of what they are owed. In this case, taking a buy-out offer that is less than what the creditors are wanting is better than losing almost everything. Someone MIGHT be able to get the company for a "song".

It wouldn't completely surprise me if Hasbro had some money in some sort of scheme like this. They are trying to merge with Mattel, and having basically total control of a nationwide (semi)-important retailer would let them really put the screws to Mattel. I still think they would have to seriously reformat TRU's retail locations (to about the size of an average Gamestop, probably a third the size of a current average TRU) but it is possible.

They will most likely be sent in larger numbers to the online stores like BBTS, Chosen Prime, TF Source, and Toy Dojo. There will also be a larger amount of stock being sold by Asian distributors like Planet Steel Express as the vacuum forms and they pick up the demand. As a small consolation prize, any sealed TRU exclusives will receive a boost in worth. I doubt Walmart and Target will expand their toy departments to take advantage of the new market share; they have been trending towards smaller toy aisles and pushing the toys to online sales.

...target’s finally updating their retail branding and floorplans (about seven years too late), unfortunately they’re massively downscaling their electronics and toy sections... :(

...maybe barnes and noble will further expand their toy sections to sieze available market share?..right now hasbro and mattel products are the most-conspicuous absence from their offerings...

Preach. Most of my memories of "G1 toys on pegs" come from that place.

I was just there, and there are no indications that the Savannah Toys'R'Us is closing...
