Sorry if this has been asked before but I'm new here.

I want to do a Cybertron toy shelf for G1 characters as seen in the 80's cartoon.

How many characters appeared in their Cybertron alt modes in the G1 cartoon?
And what toy versions are the best? (if any)

The toys can come from any Hasbro/Takara line or even 3rd party.
I just want the most accurate versions as they appeared in the G1 cartoon.

    Thanks in advance.

Well, easy! I think. We've seen the seekers in their cybertronian modes, so go with the siege seekers. Siege soundwave has his cybertronian "lamp post" mode. Wheeljack has a 3rd party cybertronian vehicle mode but it can't transform by funbie studios. And you have to 3d print it. Sadly, that's as far as I know

That's a great start! Thank you.
I didn't know about the Siege Soundwave's lamppost mode.

The seekers are the easiest ones. Although was Starscream actually seen in the cartoon in his tetra jet mode?

So far I'm thinking of having Shockwave (Masterpiece), Elita One (POTP) Novastar (POTP), Moonracer (POTP), Lancer (Generations Select), Greenlight (WFC Amazon exclusive), Chromia (Siege) and Unicron along with Primus in his Cybertron planet mode. Also that Masterpiece Vector Sigma toy.
    I'll add the tetra jets.

    Anything I'm missing?

Oh I forgot about the upcoming Arcee, Quintesson Judge and Allicon from Earthrise.

There’s a 3rd party Cybertronian Bumblebee named “Skiff”. He was made by Maas Toys. Siege Ironhide is kinda like his Cybertronian form as well. I think the only Cybertronian forms shown in the G1 cartoon that we have yet to get as transforming toys are Jazz and Wheeljack.

Welcome aboard. Starscream's Tetra Jet mode wasn't shown in the cartoon but most fans agree he would have had one so the Siege figure is worth picking up.

Titans Return a few years ago had a lot of G1 characters with Cybertronian mode:

Blurr. The Takara Legends Blurr has a cartoon accurate colour scheme.*
    Kup*
    Hardhead*
    Brainstorm*
    Chromedome*
    Highbrow*
    Sixshot*
    Sky Shadow
    Quake
    Misfire*
    Triggerhappy*
    Slugslinger*
    Scourge*
    Galvatron*
    Astrotrain
    Sentinel Prime
    Topspin
    Twintwist
    Soundwave
    Blaster
    Trypticon*
    Full Tilt. Comes with Trypticon.
    Broadside. Jet mode.
    Tidal Wave
    Quickswitch
    Nautica
    Fastlane*
    Cloudraker*
    Metalhawk

    Power of the Primes

    Rodimus Prime*
    Rodimus Unicronus

There have been other lines with Cybertronian modes over the years.

    Combiner Wars

Technobots though the more expensive Takara version looks better. There are also thirdparty versions. They also come with a repaint of Cosmos called Scrounge.*

From the War For Cybertron console games:

Megatron. There's also a third party version.
    Soundwave. Deluxe and Voyager.
    Soundblaster. Black repaint of Soundwave.
    Starscream
    Thundercracker
    Skywarp
    Optimus Prime
    Jazz
    Sideswipe
    Bumblebee
    Ultra Magnus
    Onslaught
    Swindle
    Vortex
    Brawl
    Blast Off
    Impactor
    Twintwist
    Topspin
    Whirl
    Roadbuster
    Shockwave

    Titanium

Starscream. Stylised version of the Tetra Jet.
    Thundercracker
    Skywarp
    Sunstorm
    Thrust
    Prowl
    Grimlock
    The Fallen
    Optimus Prime
    Ultra Magnus. White cab.

    Classics/Generations

Dirge. A repaint of Cybertron Voyager Starscream.
    Ratbat
Vector Prime. Brown repaint of the Cybertron toy.
    Orion Pax
    Springer
    Sandstorm
    Octane
    Cyclonus*
    Metroplex
    Roadbuster
    Sky Shadow
    Thunderwing

    Cybertron

Starscream. Voyager, wine coloured Voyager that makes a good Thrust. Based on the Tetra Jet design from the War Within comic by Dreamwave.
    Vector Prime.
Sideways. A servant of Unicron said to exist in various forms across the Multiverse.
Ransack. Not the Insecticon but retroactively made G1 in different official incarnations of the fiction.

    Botcon Convention

Double Punch. A repaint of Energon Scorponok.
    Ironhide
    Ratchet
    Outback/Fallback
    Sky Quake
    Leozack
    Battletrap
    Ferak. White repaint of Cyclonus.
    Optimus Primal
    Dinobot
    Rattrap
    Cheetor
    Tigatron
    Rhinox
    Landshark
Lifeline. Paradron medic repaint of Arcee.*
    Alpha Trion

We didn't see Lifeline transform but she was a direct repaint of Arcee.

    G1

    Hot Rod*
    Kup*
    Blurr*
    Springer*
    Galvatron
    Cyclonus*
    Scourge*
    Rodimus Prime*
    The Headmasters*
    The Targetmasters*
    Quickswitch* from the commercial animation.
    The Pretenders
    Thunderwing
    Roadblock
    Vroom
    Crossblades
    Sky Hammer

    Third Party

    Technobots
    Hot Rod. Papa Toys*
    Chromedome. MFT*
    Kup*
    Springer*
    Swerve
    Gears
    Drillhorn
    Killbison
Tetra Jets. Great cartoon accurate jet modes but awkward transformation and poor robot modes.

    Upcoming:

    Fasttrack
    Snapdragon
    Scorponok

I'm sure I'm missing some stuff but this might help you.

I marked the ones close to their cartoon appearance with *.
