Do you think that posing Transformers and photographing them to the best of your ability qualifies as art, or no?

Not my Gorilla style of photography lol. However, some people here take fantastic photos and i'd say its art. Of course, i'm not saying Mona Lisa but I like it.

My random shots of stuff I just bought, or a random shot of my stuff on a shelf is the artistic equivalent of me taking a random shot of myself with friends at a restaurant or bar/club or whatever.

Me, or other people, planning out and taking really nice pics of their Transformers certainly qualifies as art to me. I have experience as a photography and certainly consider photography an artform.

If an exhibit that's an empty room with the light flicking on and off can count as art (seriously), then awesome pictures of toys should count, dammit.

If its to do with your rejected thread in the fanart section, its just to do with how the board prefers to categorize creative work. Actual artwork goes in fanart, photomanipulations go in toy discussion. I think the distinction is pretty clear.

If youre actually debating what merits as art or not, youre barking up the wrong tree. A 10 year olds stick figure of optimus prime has the right to be in the fanart section more than your professional quality photoshop edit. At least in this particular forum. Im sure its nothing personal, so you shouldnt take it as so.

What counts or doesn't count as art is a point people could debate about forever. Photography is art in my opinion, regardless of subject matter. Just because it isn't all pretentious and black-and-white with a little splash of colour at the focal point, doesn't mean it isn't an expression of creativity.

Photography is VERY much an art form, no matter what the subject matter is. Some people are great at it, some aren't just like any other art form. It takes a natural ability, a good eye, and lots of practice to be good at it.

It certainly can be. I think there's a certain level of quality before if can be considered art though. Eg, a cell phone pic of stuff on your desk I wouldn't consider framing.

Don't get all jumpy, there. I fully understand why the thread was moved. I just take exception to the notion that it can't qualify as "art". So: The Mod moving it - not personal. The other guy calling it "not art" - personal.

Simply posing a toy and taking a photograph IMO does not qualify as art, it's just photography. Photography certainly CAN be art, but all photography is not art. It takes more than depressing a shutter button to be an artist.

I don't think you considered that seeing as your poll only says pictures are or are not art. No one is going to vote that photos can never be art, so it certainly stacks the deck in your favor.

artform pure and simple. more immediate than a painting, more thought provoking than an atheistic debate, and can be used as evidence in court! and i take bad ass pics! one day i'll put them up and link em but i'm lazy. these few are from alaska in 2008.

Hmm I don't know. If the person who takes the photo thinks it is art, it's art for them and no one can tell them otherwise. But at the same time they can't force everyone to see it as an art.

FYI I don't consider my photos as an art. I only press the shutter on my point and shoot :p  I just like to do it a lot.

I could not agree more! Which is why I voted no even tho I don't agree with the statmet 'no - pictures are not art' of course they are but that wasnt really the question that was being posed now was it? As with may message board polls the question is coloured by the opinion of the poller.

I used to take carfully posed pictures of Transformers and although I was proud of my work and would say there is a certain artistic quality and skill to taking them I would never qualify it as art. In my humble opinion given the right equipment anyone even the least artistic of us can take good qulaity photos.

This is funny, I was thinking about this a few days ago. For the longest time, I considered my collection thread "artistically photographed". But a couple days ago I was thinking about it, and I don't consider it artistic at all. There isn't any heart or feelings involved. My single goal is just to take a really good photograph.

Art should be expressing ones self and if you do that through posing toys and photographing them than dammit thats art!
