I didn't see anything like this,so let's talk about gimmicks! What is your favorite/least favourite TF toy gimmick?

My personal favourite is probably spring-loaded missiles. I mean, what is not awesome about a weapon acressory in a figure that actually shoots little pieces of plastic that fly around your room and instantly go missing. :lol

My Least favourite is probably all these new autotransformation toys or as i like to call them "One-Step-Flip-Flop-Fucks" I feel like these gimmicks take away every good feature in a toy.

My Favorite has to be the self transforming trailer for Armada Prime. As dated as the figure is, that was pretty cool.

Least favorite is MP Grimlock's LED. It ruins the had articulation.

    All of the [word]masters.

Even thought the only ones of these I've only ever messed with Universe Cyclonus and Generations Scoop. Can't wait for Brinstorm, though!

It was cool to see two different animals merged into one and transform too.

    Least: Headmasters
It's cool, but if one loses the head, they just have a headless body.

I'm not sure if it's a "play feature" or truly a gimmick, but the fact that figures that have the RTS Wreck-Gar mold can ride each other is a freaking great, unobtrusive feature that makes me love the Wreck-Gar mold even more.

If that doesn't count, then probably Headmasters.

As far as gimmicks I don't like, that's easy: Any missile that has a string attached. I freaking HATE that. They don't do anything except get in the way, look awful, and completely neuter what would otherwise be an entertaining missile. This can also be extended to apply to strings in general, not just ones attached to missiles (looking at you, TM2 and Animated Blackarachnia).

Favorite: Cyber Keys. A decent Gimmick that rarely interfered with articulation

Least Favorite: Spark of combination. How many Autobots had so-so toys because of it? Oh right, all the Deluxe and Voyager class ones.

Well some of the Energon figures were decent. I liked Rodimus and Downshift (Wheeljack). They were nice updates that work for Classics.

I absolutely loathed Mechtech. Absolutely crappy weapons instead of something decent to hold.

I did like Cyber Keys like most. The figures were fantastic from the Cybertron line.

I hate spring loaded stuff. The missiles are always awkward and the launchers usually look silly with no missile. I wish that they would just use the extra plastic/budget to make better figures with less gimmicks.

Cyber keys are probably the best gimmick in the unicron trilogy series.

it ruins his articulation.. how so?

i agree. i'm not a big fan of gimmicks what so ever. the headmasters are probably the best. that's the gimmick that actually adds something.

i'm not a fan of spring loaded missiles, i have no use for them and they can make weapons look a little stupid, especially when the weapon is supposed to be a hand held gun. i can understand a rocket launcher with spring loaded missiles, but that's it. i'd prefer regular weapons.. like generations roadbuster who has both normal weapons and a spring loaded launcher that looks right, rattrap, blurr, scourge, kup.. etc.

i'm also not a fan of target masters. the concept is neat, but they almost always look like either a robot laying down or a robot bent in half, both of which don't look very good. they also end up looking a bit too large for whoever is holding them.

so, yeah, mech tech, automorph, push button, one step, spring-loaded/friction missiles, etc, i'm not really a fan of any of it. i'd rather them focus on a really cool transformation with two accurate modes than rely on a gimmick.

i just had a thought out of the blue.. drift was pretty awesome in AOE.. i wish we could have an animated show that utilized samurai style for the robots.. set it in an older transformers timeline where a sword reigned supreme. that'd be cool.

I like MechTech for the sheer silliness and fun(DotM, not Prime.)

But I think my favorite gimmick would have to be hidden weapons. They're not regarded as line wide gimmicks, but I just love how Hasbro could integrate little things into their toys to make them more fun, like HTFD Starscream's wrist weapons or DotM Ironhide's chest cannon. Imagine of they could have integrated Stealth Force into fully transformable toys(I already know about RotF and DotM Bumblebee's hidden cannons.

Best gimmick, transforming everything has to come second to that.

Worst... hummmm I think all gimmicks are okay if done well, the main thing is gimmicks should not get in the way of transformation or articulation, as long as they follow that rule anything could work.

    um, that kinda already exist.

But yeah, target masters aren't that god unless you make the figure extra large, so the weapon is in scale.

but my least favorite gimmick are string missile. man those stink.

Favourite : 5mm Mech Tech ports ; both open & concealed / springloaded ; they make a figure incredibly versatile in weapons handling.

    Worst : 1-step changers.
