Another commissioned repaint. Gads I love painting this figure! Not much different than my first one, but I still wanted to post it here. This time the lightpiping was left intact, but I did add reflective paint inside the head to assist. Before anyone says it, yes, the darker color does work a little better than the stock color. I still like the original, but am slowly resolving to do this to my untouched one as well.
Nope. Well, yes, but not for this. All sprays and LOTS of intensive masking. I also broke the figure down as far as it could go without popping pins.
I've been on the fence about getting Shockwave, in large part due to the lavender. If the retail version looked like yours, I'd have swooped it up in a heartbeat. Here's hoping the inevitable (?) Hasbro version takes after it.
Just wanna say that Yaujta's repainted Shockwave looks even better in hand This paint isn't easy to photograph.
Love the sparkly purple. If you still have it, can I see pix with the clear hand and gun hand? Alt mode pix would be great too, if you can TF it without scraping up anything...
That is such a vast improvement. Maybe Takara will get this idea and reissue Shockwave in something that doesn't look like it was ripped from a 3rd grade coloring book.
Another great work, i'd like to see the alt mode as well, and how much the reflective paint enhance the light piping
I did use the clear hand in my photos if you're curious: Minor/Repaint: - Toy Accurate MP-29 Shockwave It's not the same figure as the one shown here, but they are both MP-29 and are both painted by Yaujta, using the same technique and the same paint. The only thing that is different is that I nerfed the light piping on my copy (because I personally don't think light piping has a place on MPs).
It can be transformed without scraping anything up, with a little care. The leg hinges were the biggest obstacle, but they work fine. You just need to transform it a bit slower to allow for clearances and the like. When I do another one, I'll definitely showcase the alt mode as well. The only reason I didn't take pics of it for these threads was that the pictures I took were either right after the paint was done and I was allowing for cure time, or it was about to be packed up and I didn't think about it.
Wow that looks good. Like Factory good. Like "Hey that's a G1 Shockwave toy somebody modded with better articulation" good!
