Apparently a group of people were in a shoplifting ring. Swapping out UPC to get toys at low prices then selling them on line at a huge mark up. A buddy sent me this. 6K toys bought using fake bar codes seized from Murfreesboro home
There's nothing too surprising about this except that more people aren't reported as having been caught. The way WalMart labels things in their system, "ToyTransDel", "STRWRSFIG", "MegConSet" all a person really has to do is look for the most generic reading identifiers for a particular brand and print up a bunch of their own stickers. About the only saving grace would be the self checkouts that have a weight feature and associated weight for an item. But even that's easily avoided by simply not bagging less than five to ten items depending on the store. It's unfortunate but dishonest people really do make the world more difficult for the rest of us.
I suspect it's just the people trying to flip their ill-gotten gains immediately, and the ones who keep hitting the same stores. This seems like one of those crimes where recklessness is the only reason they ever get caught.
I used to do this when I was poor and young. Minus the reselling. Glad I didnt get caught. I'd keep barcodes until they cleared out at $5 and tack them to the packages, to fool the self-checkout
What an idiot. Can you imagine being in prison and having to explain that to your cellmate? I bet he's only going to be worth 2 or 3 cigarettes. Tops.
It's on Facebook (the article here) but I'm sure others read this there. So see THIS IS the reason why i can't stand it when someone goes store to store buying 2 here 2 there and so on. It really makes it hard to have fun collecting SW black series or modern Transformers. Just my 2cents on it.
