Ok, simple enough. What are the 5 worst ideas here
1) Killing Optimus Prime (a gimme)
2) Beast Machines: the execution: If they had some more time to iron out ideas, and keep the humor from the early pitch, then maybe Hasbro could have had another big hit
3) Armada (cartoon, mainly the beginning): Had the show not been rushed to air, and gotten time to properly translate, dub, and animate, perhaps Armada would have gotten the praise that it has for it's later arcs
4) Canceling Transtech: At least they could have gotten maybe one or two characters to proper prototype for fans' judgement
5) Megatron as a toy gun: I know, blasphemer, but, had they made Megatron perhaps, say, Diaattacker, Fortress X,, a Tank (which he is more often than not nowadays) or something, so that way Hasbro would have no issues in reissues or the MP figure, since there would be no orange cap (though in Diattackers case the launchers would have to be weakened or disabled) and we can't even get a Nerf style Megatron now

I was going to put the Action Masters, but I admit the cartoon likeness is pretty good for their time

 

1) movie skids and mudflap, whoever came up with them has serious issues
2) Action masters
3) IDW arcee's origin
4) The use of michael Bay in general
5) Human/nebulan secondary users so powermasters, headmasters and targetmasters, I don't mind there fictional appearances but none of them seem to make any logical sense

 

1-4 are Mikey Bay being anything to do with anything.

5. G1 Megatron being the weedy and pathetic P38 instead of the buff and imposing Browning. He's already smaller and less interesting than the freaking Tapedeck and then you further hamper his machismo by making him a girl-gun!!

What were you thinking Hasbro?

2: Rodimus Prime the name and the character in season 3 but mainly the name, what is he a drain cleaner.

5: Making a giant Animated Optimus toy instead of Omega Superem

i disagree, killing optimus prime, and the entire cast off in the movie, and replacing it with a new cast, was a fantastic idea. it allowed the series to have new life. it kept it from becoming stale. and also was the first time transformers felt like an actual war. with actual deaths.

a better "worse" idea, would be bringing optimus prime back to life, afterwards. if they had kept with rodimus, he could of grown to be a fantastic character. he DID grow in season 3. but that was all tossed away for the return of optimus prime. where afterwards he was turned into a minor character, and basically brushed aside. if they had to bring optimus prime back, they should of still kept rodimus as leader. allowed rodimus to continue to grow. turn optimus prime into the mentor role. the alpha trion, to rodimus prime.

the worst idea killing optimus prime? no, the worst idea, is killing him, with out having him stay dead.

plus now we have a repeat of those events, over and over again.

i still maintain to this day, that character wise, rodimus is the better character. better written, more relatable, all because he is younger, in experienced, and is not super intelligent, all knowing, and all powerful, like optimus seemed to be.

rodimus had way more personality too. sure it was a lot of self doubt, but that was set up in the movie. he is responsible for optimus prime's death. and that makes him believe that he is not worthy of it. but he still keeps trying.

 

1. - Letting Michael Bay direct the live action movies.
2. - Letting talentless hacks with terrible senses of design create the characters in the live action movies.
3. - Limiting the number of WfC and FoC figures to a very small number.
4. - Not making enough of countless classics figures. Their are so many I want and so many I will never have.
5. - Hasbro firing many super talented toy designers, artists and writers over the years.

Optimus Dying and coming back to life in G1 it was decently written because his death had an effect on the plot and when he came back it was a long time after his death.

Why would Hasbro of 1983 care about reissuing gun Megatron twenty - thirty years later?

They wouldn't have created a new mold to use as their Decepticon leader so thats out. Fortress X and Dai Attacker are too big. A seeker jet or Blitzwing would not have worked either.

Megatron the gun was the appropriate size and looked the part.

 

(1) Trying to please the fandom. Seriously, HasTak, you might as well just give up trying, because it isn't going to happen - the fandom is never going to be happy because nothing is ever going to be as superspecialawesome as they think G1 was. Even if an idea seems like it might be something the fandom would really like, just assume the fandom will find (or make up) some reason to hate it and don't bother. Just ignore the fandom, leave them to their bitching and 3rd party items, and focus on making as much money as possible from the actual target market. If you feel absolutely compelled to do something for the fandom, just slap the G1 cartoon up on The Hub and call it a day.

(4) Megatron as a realistic gun. This is mostly an idea that turned out to be bad in retrospect, but even in the '80s there were incidents that made it clear a realistic gun-mode TF was a bad idea.

(5) Furman's origin for Arcee in the Marvel comics continuity ("we built her to appease pissed-off feminists").

1. ROTF. Even ignoring the fact the script was rushed through during the writer's strike and the actual novelization would have made a far better film, the choice of 'The Fallen' as the title bad guy was a stroke of idiocy. An obscure comic-only character who is best known for simply being on fire and whose name sounds like something from the script writing phase but they never gave him something better? Doesn't help the design wasn't meant to even transform in the first place. And then the need for everything to combine...UGH

2. Energon. For the 20th anniversary they really should have done better. Not to mention the original Superlink version is far better simply because a lot was lost in translation.

3. Prime. So much potential wasted.

4. Deluxe Universe Galvatron. Should have been a voyager, plus the whole "too many tanks" excuse Hasbro gave for not doing that flies in the face of the fact there were TWO redecoes of Cyb. Def. Scattorshot.

5. The Beast.

 

5. Making Megatron transform into a gun in G1 when logically he should have been a tank.
4. Trying to glue the WFC/FOC games and Prime into a Frankenstein's monster of a continuity.
