And yet the finale sort of awkwardly tries to imply/show that he becomes an award-winning filmmaker or something like that. It's hard to see because it's just part of the background of one of the flash-forward Lori/Coby shots and is obscured by their presence in the image.

:lol  I didn't even look at how old the posts from before today were. Though in hindsight I should've been clued in that a 5-page thread appeared out of nowhere after I'd never seen it before this afternoon.

    1. Kicker
    - Still just the worst. Annoying, constantly yelling and whining about his life. Then after a lame pep-talk from Ironhide, just forgives his dad for everything & everything’s just magically cool.

    2. Rad
    - “I want to tell you about the Transformers.” Except that everything he tells us is a guess, and he often gets it wrong, and more than halfway into the show he’s still coming to the realization that these robots are “alive.”

    3. Jack
    - Say what you will about the other kids of TFP: Raf is a tech savvy prodigy that can out-hack Soundwave and understand Bumblebee’s R2-D2 speak, & Miko is rash and reckless. But Jack… Jack is boring. He’s only the lead among the kids because the show says he is, but goddamn is he a blank slate. Dull & boring & a wet blanket.

    4. Carlos
“Holy guacamole!!” Carlos is just a brain dead idiot with terrible catch-phrases. Also he falls in love with a hologram for one episode, and they really try to sell the emotional loss, but it fails hard.

    5. Cain
    - it’s been so long since I’ve seen Zone, & don’t ask me to rewatch it, because that was already 25 minutes of my life I’ll never get back. But I have this distinct memory of disliking Cain. If I recall correctly, and I kinda don’t care if I do, his planet got blown up, and it was all very traumatic, and he had a dumb alien rabbit mascot for a pet, & instantly became friends with a human kid later, and then just kinda got forgotten. Basically a worthless character & kind of annoying.

Doesn't mean he can't be a stoner and slacker on occasion. At least getting high might help him with script-writing, idk.

    1. Professor Princess. Stupidest character in the franchise and that's saying something.

    2. Carlos

    3. Kicker

    4. Miko

    5. Cody from Rescue Bots

    Dishonourable mentions:

    Bud
Raff. I hate the kid genius cliche.
Headmasters Daniel. I had no problem with his US self.
    The brother from Earthspark.
    The Armada bullies.
    Isobel from Transformers 5.

I mean the straight up "The Transformers" cartoon. The Marvel/Sunbow one that was for the west. When I say "G1" I usually mean 'western G1' as opposed to Japanese G1 which is kind of its own separate thing since it didn't exist in the west for like 25 years. I just don't have the patience to type out the lengthy explanation of the distinction each time.

The version of Daniel that shows up in The Movie and season 3/4 of the original cartoon is basically a different character than the one that appears in Headmasters. Honestly a bunch of the existing characters that show up in Headmasters are noticeably different from how they were portrayed in the prior works, if they were portrayed at all. And I'm not talking about the Headmaster characters themselves who have altered origins and personalities. I mean like Headmasters Arcee is a brutally awful pox upon even the fairly limited range she got to display in the original show.

Best one I saw on this site was when someone bumped a "just right before the" 2007 movie thread.

No lengthy explanation needed - you could have just said "Sunbow Daniel", and it would have gotten the point across and been more accurate.

The point I was trying to make is that Headmasters is just as much G1 as Sunbow. It just annoys me when people act like G1 is synonymous with Sunbow, like Marvel and the Japanese shows and manga aren't just as much G1.

In every show I've watched I've at least tolerated the kids. Granted I have yet to watch the Unicron Trilogy.

    Daniel is the worst.

Not sure I can trust anyone who thinks Miko is the worst when Sam exists

Anyway, I never minded any of the humans in Prime, though I think Raf was my least favorite just because I found him the least memorable, even Jack had a fun stint with Smokescreen. Also I liked Daniel more than Spike, anyway

    1) Sam 'NONONONnonOnoNoNOnoNonO!" Witwicky
    2) Kicker
    3) Headmaster from Animated
    4) The rest of the Animated villains minus Meltdown(who was actually good)
    5) The US military in the Bay films

Daniel never made sense to me because they already had the character laid out for them and yet chose to make wholesale changes that only made him worse. I know his age was never explicitly stated, but production materials and a little bit of guesswork based on the timeline would've indicated that he should've been like 10 or 11 around the time of the movie and season 3. Japan kind of borks it up because while they kept seasons 1 and 2 happening in relative lockstep with the actual real world time (85/86) and the movie was still 2005, they pushed ahead season 3 to 2010 and then had Headmasters be a year after that in 2011. So if Daniel is supposed to be 10/11 in the movie he should be a teenager in the 3rd season and into Headmasters. I know they did some extra story somewhere that said he got injured and had to be kept in stasis for several years which stopped his growth but that's a cheap and lazy excuse to cover for an unnecessary alteration (plus it doesn't make a lot of sense relative to Spike and Carly's ages either).

But my point is that for as old as Daniel is supposed to be, Headmasters has him act like he's... I don't know... maybe 5? He doesn't understand simple concepts, he screeches and throws tantrums over trivial things, he displays the combo of aggressive independence and fearful hesitation you usually get out of kids trying to exert themselves and explore the world for the first time (he boasts about how great and smart and tough he is, but immediately crumbles into a blubbering wreck when anyone tries to make him live up to that). He gets cheered up at one point by Fortress making silly faces, which is the kind of thing you usually do with babies and toddlers. I don't understand why he acts so much younger except that they felt it necessary to make him identifiable for the younger target audience of Japanese Transformers shows. Either that or it's just a cultural thing in Japan because across all the series it seems like kids that are teenagers are basically mini adults while kids that are pre-teens or younger are immature to the extreme with a giant gulf in between. The only really strong exceptions are the Armada kids, who if production material didn't peg them as being 11-12 I would totally understand thinking they were supposed to be 15 or 16.

But tl;dr Daniel sucked. I disliked Kicker more, but he at least maybe has the excuse that he's supposed to be kind of a jerk.

I just think he's a little know all. I never liked how human children were shown to be smarter than advanced alien robots.

Probably easier to list the kids that weren’t annoying.

    … …
    … … …
    … … … … Ok, nevermind. I can’t think of any names for such a list.

They named a character Rusty Clay?? Please tell me he’s not red-headed.

Edit: Ok, I checked and am relieved he is not. But still, that’s a lame name.
