1. Steven Spielberg 2. Peter Jackson 3. Robert Zemeckis 4. Michael Bay 5. Christopher Nolan Honorable Mentions: James Cameron, Gore Verbinski, Jon Favreau
No particular order... Peter Jackson Christopher Nolan Micheal Bay Hayao Miyazaki Can't think of a fifth, ATM
Steven Spielberg James Cameron Guillermo Del Toro Christopher Nolan Robert Zemeckis Honorable mentions: Joss Whedon- I love everything he's done so far, but I don't think he has directed enough movies yet to get a spot on the list. Directors of the Star Wars movies. Quentin Tarantino Jon Favreau Shane Black Peter Jackson Richard Donner Francis Ford Coppola Frank Capra Up and coming directors: Rian Johnson Marc Webb
1. David Lynch 2. Wes Anderson 3. John Carpenter Those three are easy for me, with Lynch and Anderson being so close as to nearly be transposable (and, in fact, I may). But after those three, choosing gets real hard real quick. Maybe: 4. Roman Polanski 5. Tim Burton ?? Sergio Leone should be on my list, but I can't choose who to dump. I haven't seen Looper yet, but I almost felt like choosing Johnson on the basis of Brick alone, which instantly entered my 'top-10 movies of all-time' list from my first viewing. What a powerhouse directorial debut.
^I agree that Brick was a fantastic movie. Looper was great as well. I can't wait to see what he is going to do next.
1. James Cameron 2. Steven Speilberg 3. Peter Jackson 4. Quentin Tarantino 5. Hayao Miyazaki Honorable mention 1: Joe Carnahan. It is an utter mystery to me why The A-Team didn't do gangbusters business; it was action packed, it was funny and it had a great ensemble cast and that set piece with the tank and reaper drones is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. Honorable mention 2: Joss Whedon. Here by virtue of The Avengers and Serenity, as most of his other material (other than Firefly) tends to piss me off. Honorable mention 3: Sam Mendes. The first movie his I saw was American Beauty, which I enjoyed even if it does shoot its own shaggy dog. Then there was Road to Perdition, a really interesting gangster flick, and I thought: this guy is okay. Then Skyfall happened......
That's pretty much my opinion too. If he makes a few more good movies, he'll without a doubt be in my top 5. I did think it was pretty cool when I found out he directed some episodes of The Office (which I love)
This isn't ordered, I'm not good at ordering lists like these. But here goes: -Joss Whedon -Christopher Nolan -Steven Spielburg -Alfred Hitchcock Not sure who my fifth one would be. There are several directors whom I like based on what I know about them, but I haven't seen enough of their films to put them on the list.
