Ok, so I know Optimus is the main Autobot and all, and he should get a lot of toys, but is it really necessary to include him in every single Platinum set? That's three right there, plus his standalone voyager and leader toys. I'd really like to get some of the Platinum sets, but I'm not big on getting the same figure multiple times (also, poor). I had been planning on getting the Optimus/Grimlock voyager set, but then I saw Autobots United, and I figured I'd get that instead, then I saw the one with Vehicon and Rollbar, and I'd like to have those two exclusives too, so now I'm torn :/

I'm still waiting on that "perfect" one for my Classics shelf since I've already got MP-10. Let's talk about this atrocity: the upcoming Leader class Optimus Prime in the Generations line... Hasbro could have done way better.

I think you are referring to a Voyager Prime unless I missed something.
Optimus Primes in general I can never help but buy. I do not think we get too much Optimus, he has a cool look. As a matter of fact I find the Generations line lacking in Optimus Prime figures, there are a lot of neat designs that can sell and size classes that can work for them.
Now, the Evasion Prime mold is very abundant and probably too much so. I'm saying this with the fact that cab over trucks are like my Kryptonite.

G1 Prime is the only one that matters so it does not effect me.

Generations has been interesting in that they haven't taken the oportunity to inundate us with G1 Primes. 06 gave us a deluxe and a voyager, jump to '11 for RTS G2 prime as the new deluxe, and next year we finally get a new voyager.

Maybe this is because Optimus anchors almost every line, so there's usually always OP toys of one stripe or another out. They figure CHUG collectors probably prefer to get obscure characters or obscure designs for known character, like last year's IDW megatron and Bumblebee. And they're probably right.

As far as Prime in the AOE line, well, it's fairly obvious. It may not be the biggest part of the movie, but it's clear that Optimus riding Grimlock into battle is THE promotional centerpiece of the entire film. So we get lots and lots of Optimus Primes and Grimlocks, even if Lockdown had a larger, more important role than Grimlock. But hey, at least Bumblebee isn't the promotional center of the franchise anymore, so that's something.

Someone at Hasbro must really like the Evasion Mode mold. I didn't intend to get any, and may end up with three.
    -Ol Rusty
-Autobot 5-pack (maybe, depending on price)
    -Evolution

Really only want Ol Rusty, because the paint scheme on most of them just kill the mold for me. Already have ROTF Leader and HFTD Voyager (among others), and even if this is a cab-over, I don't feel I "need" it.

Are they just not going to bother with Optimus's new truck mode in voyager? I feel like it would've been a better fit for the Autobots Platinum set, as that was his form when he reunited with them.

The high number of Optimus Prime and Bumblebee figures really only started in 2007. Before that we would have at most 1 to 3 a year. Somehow Transformers survived with the majority of Transformers NOT being Prime, Bee, Megatron and Starscream for 22 years.

I want that Platinum Energon Optimus because of the G1 deco. I'd honestly like to get a Cybertron Optimus in a new deco, maybe with a red & blue Wing Saber or something.

There always has been and always will be a glut of Optimus Prime figures in the current Transformers Toy Line. at least one in every Sub-line imprint.
