Jordan goes to a transformer collectors house to "purchase" some 80's toy goodness, about 10 minutes in he pulls out a prototype slag... asks the collector ( who has a boxed grand max, raiden, and many other very rare very expensive g1s mind you) how much he thinks its worth and he says $150....... at this point everything is so extremely staged I don't even know why I bother, and I'm sure he will sell me that boxed Grand Max for $300 :D

I wish TV networks would make better shows about the people who play with toys. The Hub should give a time slot for youtube reviews like Optibotimus to broadcast their reviews. Heck, I'd love to run the show myself.

Why, so there can be endless bickering about who gets airtime and who doesn't? Watch them get dropped the second they give something a slightly bad review? Noooooo thank you.

The Toy Hunter dude's voice is like nails on a chalkboard amplified through a feedback-ridden microphone to me.

That would be a nightmare to organize and it would end up being a giant commercial on a network that's already one giant commercial. Pass.

The problem with "shows about people who play with toys" is that they're approached the same as "shows about people in grad school" or "shows about beauty pageants" or "shows about people who have more kids than usual" or any show about anything that's not in the public mainstream. They're designed to show that habit in a quasi-negative light, so they can hype up the "Look at what THESE people do! It's different from what YOU do! Isn't that INTERESTING?! Keep watching to see what THEY DO NEXT!" factor, rather than an accurate portrayal of the people or activities involved.

So, a toy review show would fit better on a network with little commercialism? How hard would it be to organize a review show? Sean Long makes videoes on youtube with tv quality editing all the time. Why not broadcast reviews with that editing because people watch tv 3 times as much as they go on the internet?

Because you'd have to put them under contract, you'd have to set up all sorts of caveats, NDAs, and restrictions on where, what, and when they can say certain things. There's also the fact that these guys review competitor's products (as well as 3rd party things) which you would likely have to entice them to stop, you'd have to set up a system for them to get footage to you that you could edit into a television-airable format (and believe me, there is a difference between television footage and youtube footage), etc. etc.

All so that you could put in footage of some guy telling you why you should buy a toy, on a network filled with exciting commercials doing the same thing, and television shows showing off how cool and interesting the characters are. At the very least, being on the network owned by the products they're reviewing would lead to the reviewer losing all appearance of objectivity (because do you really think Hasbro/whoever is going to want the person they're paying to review things on the air to say that a toy they've invested plenty of money in is crap and you shouldn't buy it?), and at worst, you'd see exactly why it's more common to see animated series based on toys compared to a half-hour of watching someone play with a toy.
