I've known a lot of German Shepherds and the only ones I've ever met that were quick to anger were dogs trained specifically for some sort of guard service or police. We currently have a shepherd mix that's one of the sweetest dogs I've ever known. She's full of energy at play time, but her big power move is to give a Xena level scream, then plop down in front of another dog with her legs in the air in hopes they'll jump at her. If they do, she'll just squirm out from under them, run away, then run straight at them and do it again. It's hysterical. I don't know what it would take to make her angry, because even when her sister pup goes at her hard, the worst she's ever done is set a paw on her nose as if to say, "Uh, no. That's enough." I don't think I've ever heard her growl in a menacing way even.

TIL - My youngest dog is a bird whisperer. We've long suspected she's communicating with them. Her sister dog watches birds calmly, but she always seems to get super close to them. Today on the walk, according to my wife, she walked right up to a bird and pushed her nose out, the bird touched its beak to her nose, and they stayed that way for several seconds. Then the pup looks up at 'mom' with a big smile, and the bird just casually walked away and pecked at the ground as if looking for food.
