Believe it, Transformers fans! Today is the anniversary of the first ever post about Transformers on the Internet - or rather, the pre-Internet Usenet. The first ever post about Transformers was a review of the first ever Transformers comic, calling it "the worst comic of the year". You can check out the original post here:

This is possibly the most relevant and important post I've ever seen here on TFW. Wow. We need to accept our fate. "I can't believe I spent $.75 on this thing" The more things change, the more they stay the same!!

It warms my heart on many levels to know that complaining about this hobby is something that started with our internet forefathers, continues to this day, and will probably outlive me by many, many centuries.

I admit I wasn't a fan of the info dumping, but really--the writing for the original four-issue series was no worse the anything X-Men ever did (except, perhaps, for the "naturally occurring gears and levers" bit). Happy 30th!

Thanks again for another cool insight.

I remember getting issue #1. I remember this panel and loving it actually. This was the kind of camaraderie that I wanted...instead of the cartoon (that came later and pissed me off in parts) that didn't show the Decepticons as loyal to megatron as the comic portrayed in the early issues.

The post should not be a surprise...I hardly think it was made by a kid reading and playing transformers. It was probably a comic guy, loyal to certain titles, that just bought TF#1 because it was something new to read.

Without being a kid, and having the toys, and Techspecs, The reader would be completely oblivious to what this panel was about. This panel shows that the comic writers, had actually read the Techspecs, KNEW the characters, and had to give a short bio on all of them, for us kids that may not have owned every toy, or read every tech specs.

The greatest bit about that article...no internet slang. No lol's, rofl, no smiley faces..nothing. Just plain straight forward talk/text.

In my day kid, we didn't have "I see what you did there" meme's and pictures of Tobey Maguire making a goofy face to say what we wanted to say. We had to actually say it with words!!
