Agreed. Not all MISB collectors have the intention of selling collections or hoping that the value will increase. It really is just a preference of display.

I have everything I bought this year sealed. No time to play with toys so I keep them in plastic bins until an uncertain date in the future.

My question isn't whether to open or not, but whether or not to keep the boxes. I have too many totes of boxes now.

if for any reason emergency you need to sell a figure its better to keep the box(peg blister and bubble i think its pointles but i keep the cardboard in a folder)

Thing is Opened box or loose complete makes no difference in the ammount I'll pay for a figure and I assume it's the same for many, is it realy worth keeping all that?

Well at the moment I found a bit of a solution, I keep all my boxes and cards flat packed inside my Takara Gen Metroplex box.

Funny how you never see a MISB collector talk to and about people with opened collections in the manner that people with opened collections feel that they are entitled to talk about MISB collectors.

I open them unless I have two of the same figure. Then I just open one

Yeh funny that. It's the difference between the mind of a child & the mind of an adult. Children can't grasp even the basic concept of not opening a toy. It's just tear it open, break it or if it survives that wear it out then throw it away. I think some of these transformers toys deserve more than that life especially vintage G1's. So I will continue to do my part & save as many as I can from a terrible DOOM!

Great thing about transformers toys is that they are inexpensive enough that you can buy two of the same figure so u can be a MISB collector and regular toy collector at the same time.
You can hoard as many boxes as you want really.

    But to what end?

I can understand if they are in some kind of museum, but...

I think I understand more Toys with windows, rather than Boxed (Schrodinger) toys like Fort Max.

Open them. IMO gone are the days when folks buy toys and sell them years down the road. Besides, its not a good idea to invest in toys! LOL!

Chuch!....And if you are an AFA collector, you are considered the ultimate assholes of the hobby!

You might see one of these posts for every 100 posts of hatred towards MISB collectors!

You obviously haven't seen some of the high end MISB/AFA collections!

    Open

    a) want to able to tranform it, apply reprolabels on it, display it in different poses
    b) save space, if I keep all the figures in the boxes then I would need 3 times the boxes I have for storage then I currently do now
    c) staring to get more into customising so no point being in a box

The only figure I have still in the box is the hasbro MP grimlock

Open them. Unless you have a double, open it. You bought it for the toy, not the packaging. If it can really be appreciated by some good art or box design, display the box and the toy outside of the box. If you buy stuff to sell later on, you're collecting for all the wrong reasons. Let it be something that you will get the most enjoyment out of.

AFA have no credibility. The only authority that they have in grading toys is what they say. I can grade a toy whatever I want and it would be just as credible. They graded KOs. It's only a sales thing people use to get people to pay more for their stuff.

Generally open, I don't buy these as 'investments' and because I have no real desire to resell further down the line I have no compunction with opening mah toyz...
