Just got this guy today. Pretty impressed! I haven't been this stoked about a mainline toy in awhile. Articulation is more than adequate, featuring nice ankle rockers, bicep and thigh swivels and great tight hips allowing for very expressive posing.

The paint deco is striking and very pleasing on the eye. He poses very well, though I'd have enjoyed some extra head tilt up and down. His alt modes, despite being obvious Overlord pre-tools, are fun, though his tank turret is fixed. His combined jet-tank mode is so bad it's good.

He's fun, he's expressive, and you can completely ignore the headmaster gimmick (you can't even tell he is one half the time).

Worth the extra money to snag early!

Very cool looking. I was thinking about passing on him since I had the deluxe (and lack of space for larger figures at the moment) but after seeing your pics up there, I'm sold. I really love the face sculpt.

it does look cool. i think ill grab it too. They look like GREAT alt modes with cockpits..just all around fun, and a decent bot mode.

 

How meaty does he feel? More than CW Jetfire or Magnus? Or about the same?

The lightweight flimsy feeling is my biggest gripe with those two molds. CW Megs on the other hand feels pretty good IMHO.

 

It's closer to Megs. Not as sturdy, though.

But I dislike Black Shadow getting not one, but two new gimmicks, and if I'm being perfectly honest, my Deluxe Black Shadow is more than enough.

But GODDAMN that is a pretty figure. Hopefully he'll see clearance due to being such an obvious pre-tool.

 

Looks awesome. Great review. Luckily, so far at least, leaders have been available online and in stores. I don't think I'll be able to resist.

 

Just curious about his tank-half, with regards to the hip assembly: are the legs individually detachable? I got this idea where half of the tank component could detach from the base to go on patrol or something.

 

No, the bottom half comes off as an attached unit that transforms.

 

From what it looks like, the lower legs almost work the same way as Tidal Wave
