Mine broke the last time I transformed him a couple of weeks ago.

He lives in wolf mode now.

Does anyone think applying heat to the small hinges to soften up the plastic and then working the hinge open and closed would loosen it up enough to make this less prone to breakage? I've been thinking about ordering this guy because I missed it and it looks fantastic but I don't want to pay way over retail prices and have it break on me.

 

i heard that might help but I could be wrong. I do know that I plan on getting the Takara variant at some point when the price drops and keep that variant in robot mode

 

Very good review! I lie his barrel chested, burly robot mode. His wolf mode is really nice too. I might just have to pick him up!

 

This figure is slated to be repacked in the next wave of deluxes for TR. I plan on getting a second one then. One to leave in wolf mode and a second to stay in robot mode.

 

I want to get a second one as well but instead of the same figure, waiting for the price of Takara version to go down

 

Which part of the hinge is breaking?

 

On mine the inner most hinges broke, circled. On my second one the same thing happened.

I super glued the red flexible plastic to the yellow cockpit plastic. It has held up fine since.

I'm curious if anyone has had broken hinges anywhere else or just in the circled areas?

With the reissue coming, with a fix hopefully, and the fact I have not experienced anymore breaks I think other then aesthetic probs he'll be in decent shape.

 

He's at the mall where I can simply pick him off the shelf... But after reading about all those breakages I'm really not sure if to risk the purchase. Scary stuff.

Between Takara and Hasbro, I've owned 5 of this mold for various parts swaps and customs etc.

Maybe I've just been extremely lucky but I haven't had any hinge breakage issues at all.

 

Live on the edge. He's great fun.
And the earlier poster was right the hinges breaking is only an issue because there's too much stress put upon them.
If you snap of the lid the way that guy described it (it's a few pages back i think) you'll be fine.

 

Did the wave 5 re-release fix the stupid hinge or no?

 

I've been wondering the same thing. I think the figure looks great but that hinge has kept me at bay for months now, and a revision a-la CW Motormaster's hips would be fantastic.

 

I hope I can find wave five re-release. My 9 month old Great Dane ate his head. Now just waiting to see if she throws it up or has to have surgery. So anyone want a dog?
