Knowing the disappointment Combiner Wars was, I doubt that they'll make their sequel any better...

Well, I'm not even sure if it was in this forum or not, but I was just referring to a couple of folks that called Arcee "sexist" (mostly because of her pink color) and praised Windblade as a proper female character. You know, the type of person that has to politicize everything, including comic books and cartoons. In fact, I'm afraid it might have been one of the comic book writers that said it.  

I'm happy to hear there is a good version of Windblade because that Machinima crap was my only exposure to the character.

 

The movies are Oscar worthy compare to this

Seeing as it's called Power of the Primes, it's probably going to fall into the trap of being about the power of Hasbro's favourite Prime -- Optimus. So it could be called Power of Optimus Prime, or POOP for short.

Honestly though I don't understand why everyone hates it!

 

Poor writing (both in dialogue and story structure), and horrible direction of choppy animation, mostly. Some people hated the voice acting. Some mentioned the poor editing.

I think those are the big, most common complaints. I don't understand how you can overlook all those things.

 

Because it's first and foremost a Transformers cartoon and I don't care, I still love it.

Same goes with the movies. Everyone knocks on 'em (Mainly DOTM and AOE), but I still love 'em regardless, I hold Michael Bay in such high praise and TF5 is my most hyped movie in 2017.

 

I'm under the impression that Hasbro is going to dust off that shitty Alligned origin and give us more non-burning "Megatronus" versus Robo-Jesus reincarnation Optimus Prime.

Remember when Transformers wasn't about magic except for the occasional weird thing? It seems like we get nothing but space magic now. Thanks, Star Wars.

 

People can like or not like the movies. I like the movies. That's taste. But the movies were written by writers. You don't have to like the story to be able to recognize, "Okay, there's structure, there is plot development, the characters have an arc (even if it's a shallow arc)" etc. etc. Even bad writing is better than NO writing. And that's what Combiner Wars had. No writing. Because the person/people who cobbled together what they passed off as plot and dialogue were not writers. I can say that definitively because they proved at every turn they know nothing about the craft of writing. It's like putting a monkey in a started car. Can the monkey make the car move? Maybe, but it's not driving. And somebody (maybe the monkey) is going to get hurt. There is no chance it's going to turn out well.

There isn't a good version. The author you mentioned who thought Arcee's backstory was sexist due to a wild disregard of the actual story is the same one who writes Windblade, and frankly, they've done a terrible job of introducing a new major character to the franchise, female or otherwise.

You're not wrong. Hasbro doesn't seem to understand that "fan-voted" ≠ "fan-favorite," so now we're forced to endure the shoddy, inconsistent characterizations of her stuffed into every new comic, show, and toy line since. Even some people who DO like her are getting sick of her being put into everything.

Megatron was a sole ray of sunshine in this dark cloud. Well, Bailey did a good job as Optimus too.

 

WHHHYYYY??? I mean, I know Hasbro does not care about critical reception of the movies it is financing, given how we are at the 5th Bayformers movie, but... did anyone at their marketing saw the movie? Saw how terrible the animation and voice acting was, let alone the plot?

I... I just don't want to live on Cybertron anymore.  

...Oh well, at least it will lead to more parodies and funny reviews, I hope. I have been asking Bobsheaux to review it, he is a Transformers fan.
