I think Hot Rod would be a terrible mold to repaint into Getaway. Chromedome isn't perfect either but it's close, just without the shoulders. If he had been painted more like the original toy, it would have looked decent.

Have a look at repro labels. They have an upgrade set for Breakaway.

Yes, that's what Hasbro should have done. As it is, Breakaway is the worst looking toy of the line due to how underpainted he is. and i like the Chromedome mold. It suits Getaway if he can't have his own mold and I wouldn't want several different cars having their own mold; make each new mold completely different to each other and just remold Chromedome into other cars like Nightbeat and Siren.

I think there's a possibility that the thought process behind letting such a plain figure out is that he makes a good base for assorted Titans Masters to take over as pretty much a generic.

 

His bland color reminds me of the carbots from Brave, so not too bad

 

Could anyone please confirm to me if this guy's head is painted gray or gray plastic? I plan to get him but I'm not going to if his head is covered in paint

 

The face grey is all painted, but the blue and white parts of the Headmaster body are not painted. You can see here on my copy they missed filling in one of the underside "hole/vent" areas of the back of the faceplate, and it is still white. I'm sorry if that makes you not want to get it, because it is still a pretty decent toy.

 

Thanks for your reply. Yeah, I'm not a big fan of pieces covered in paint, possibly due to bad experiences with paint prone to chipping. But so far I haven't seen a version of this guy displaying the problem, and you have confirmed to me he's decent, so I'll get him, thank you again
