Ha ha that happens all the time around here. Folks will rants & raves against it non-stop. But just wait until July or August onwards, members here will keep on posting their haul of it, pixs of it will appear over and over again on threads like "Let's see cool stuff thread" & "The Supah Cleah Pixs thread". Believe it, it will happen. It's so predictable.
I think they go one step beyond, and aim to convert others to the hating opinion or failing that, drive them away or into silence. Again, though, someone who dislikes and criticizes the figure isn't a "hater" per se. Plenty of room for civil differing tastes. A "hater" seeks to destroy, to tear down. That said, I don't like the term at all, really, as it is so overused and often poorly applied.
And it's not at all possible that their reasons are legit to them? Their reasons are made up for no other reason but to " hate"?
My personal experience as a kid was different. I enjoyed the transformation and action features much more than articulation, but I can't speak for most kids. Articulation is certainly an aspect of playability for many of us (and kids), but in my opinion, at least on the surface level, it does not seem to be something prioritised as playability by toy makers. Be it Hasbro, Mattel or Bandai, the more heavily articulated figures seem aimed at older consumers, and collectors. Hasbro is actually quite unique in that regard, their toys are much more articulated than they need to be, compared to their competitors. The other idea I had was that articulation is only playable to a certain extent. If it can do a decent amount of poses, that's great. But when it starts getting too articulated, the toy could end up being too complex to play with. It might end up compromising the transformation, for example, which would hurt the toy in playability. In this case, Hasbro likely decided that articulation was not a priority. I still think they did a decent job given what they had to work with, but the combining aspect of playability seems to be what was prioritised here
Which isn't much different, IMO, than the guy who said that (to paraphrase) he 'cannot fathom why anyone who claimed to like G1, and claimed to like Devastator, would pass on this.'
Heeeeeeeey, does anyone know when this guy will be up for pre-order at BBTS? I know that a few different online retailers have had him up, but I thought maybe they listed him too early or something and had to pull their listings.
I haven't been on these boards long but every single thread I've read about new and/or current toys evokes memories of this: player haters ball gifs | WiffleGif
That's why I think the term "haters" is over used, because most people have a real reason to dislike something. Who you described is someone who can't accept another persons opinion. There are plenty of reasons people don't like this Devastator which make sense (even if I personally disagree with them)
Since they have a direct account with Hasbro, they won't put up a pre-order until they're given the go-ahead by Hasbro themselves.
Agreed. I grew up with Cybertron, and I once got a 20th anniversary G1 Sideswipe. I got bored of it within minutes for its lack of articulation.
i hate this damn figure...........o wait no i don't........hmm what was i talking about again....... ......o yes......... i do hate this big ass thing because hes too damn big to fit on my shelves .................
Can't wait to have Devastator on my shelf. I just noticed, does anyone know what that box on the bottom left with the last letters "dwave" on it is?
