This is my first real custom-anything aside from repainting the torso of the recent KO G1 Minerva. Right now, I'm modifying his MechTech weapon to be an accurate sword as depicted in the Emiliano Santalucia concept art. Every bit of detail in that art is already molded into the blade. I just had to unscrew the MechTech weapon and push the pin that was holding the blade in place out. I cut away enough plastic from the "handle" of the sword to snugly fit in his 5mm hand. I'm currently painting his sword silver with a gold hilt to match the boxart. Still a work in progress. Gonna add more gold parts than what is shown. I've never actually painted anything before, so many of you could probably do an infinitely better job at this than I could, but it's super easy and makes all the difference in giving Thundertron a super accurate weapon without having to purchase an upgrade kit later. Disassembly and cutting only took all of five minutes. I also plan on giving him a bit of a wash to bring out the detail in his white parts, specifically the head. Painted the lion-head earring. Chose silver rather than matching gold so it would would stand out as something that didn't naturally belong on him.
Looking great so far! Can't wait to see the final completed photos. EDIT: That said, any plans to modify the extra claw piece into the claw armor on his right arm that we see in the concept art?
That looks surprisingly fantastic. The fact that the sword can be modified like that has caused me to completely flip around my desire to own this figure. I'm looking forward to seeing how he looks with the wash, too.
Oh please, this is child's play to you. Knowing you, you'd scratch build a sword out of 1500 grains of metal or something.
Looks great. Very clean and simple. I wonder how much money Hasbro would save if they had done THIS instead of the stupid gimmick.
Yeah, there's lots of little bits I'm going to do as I have time. I just painted the lion head earring.
Wish the handle was more centered, but I'm certainly not complaining Looks great! I'll be doing the same to mine!
The plastic is actually soft enough on the claw that you can widen the space with your fingers and slide the sword off of the pin. At least that's how I did mine.
