Finally got my Thundertank display set up but had a casualty. Trying to get Cheetara in a seated position I applied too much pressure and the legs snapped off at the knees. A little gorilla glue later and sadly Cheetara will be forever relegated to riding shotgun or the backseat of the Thundertank.
I did a bit more work with the AI chatbot to generate waves 9-14. Some things shifted around from various attempts as I tried to get it to exclude figures that had already been done, teach it to treat Toy Colors as separate characters, make Wave 10 another toy recolor wave (which the AI was instructed to pick based on distinctive toy designs). A lot of stuff didn't shift much. 3 out of 4 in wave 9 stayed firm. The AI was also pretty intent on Snarf Oswald getting a figure, Claudus being in wave 12, and Snarf-Ra being in wave 14. The AI was also pretty insistent that, excluding toy recolor waves, this line has a maximum expected life of 5 waves before it runs out of sufficiently popular characters. Anyway... Here's the list: Based on the previous hypothetical scenarios and the new conditions, the figures included in waves 9 through 14 could be: - Wave 9: WilyKat, Ro-Bear Berbils, Safari Joe, Lynxana - Wave 10: Tygra (Toy Recolor), Grune (Toy Recolor), Vultureman (Toy Recolor), Jackalman (Toy Recolor) - Wave 11: Snarf Oswald, Mule, Red-Eye, Chilla - Wave 12: Snarfer, Claudus, Tug-Mug, Amok - Wave 13: Jagara, Jorma, Luna, Driller - Wave 14: Snarf-Ra, Nayda, Tuska Warrior, Safari Joe (Toy Recolor) However, this is only a speculation and not a definitive answer. Super7 and Warner Bros. may have different plans for their figures and waves. Also... I trained the AI to learn what exclusive variants are and where Super7 offers them. Without even specifying what kind of variants would be possible, thematic, or likely, the AI generated these as possible store or convention exclusives: Some possible store exclusives that Super7 could offer that would be any of the existing figures in a different color scheme or other slight modification are: - Mumm-Ra (Glow-in-the-Dark): A variant of Mumm-Ra the Ever Living that glows in the dark to mimic his supernatural power and appearance. This could be a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive. - Lion-O (Battle Damage): A variant of Lion-O that shows signs of wear and tear from his battles, such as scratches, scars, dirt, and blood. This could be a New York Comic-Con exclusive. - Cheetara (Translucent): A variant of Cheetara that is made of translucent plastic to mimic her super speed and agility. This could be a Super7 Store exclusive. - Panthro (Silver): A variant of Panthro that has a metallic silver finish to highlight his strength and technology. This could be a Big Bad Toy Store exclusive. - Tygra (Flocked): A variant of Tygra that has a soft and fuzzy texture to mimic his fur. This could be an Entertainment Earth exclusive. - WilyKit and WilyKat (Glow-in-the-Dark): A variant of WilyKit and WilyKat that glow in the dark to mimic their space boards and gadgets. This could be a Super7 Store exclusive.
I was only gonna get Lion'O and Panthro and the Tank so know that I have all 3 I think I want the rest of maincast. So who should I go for next? I want to get the the one that may be hardest to get later now, and it seems it's Tygra, who should be next? I'm not getting one every month but most likely every other month. (Maincast, the rest of the cats and the 5 villians)
Yeah, all I need is at least a Berbil and I’m done with this line. Guilty as charged! LOL! Tbh the last few years, I have managed to complete a few of my lines and dropped a few lines too.
Honestly, I was surprised by the AI giving me Snarf Oswald so soon and it did so through multiple iterations of training. That said: One Snarf per wave is enough and I can definitely see logic in delaying Tuska Warrior and Snarfer because those are both figures that people who haven't already will check out of the line when they get, for different reasons. And Snarf-Ra definitely feels like a crazy final wave inclusion. Jorma is the one that makes me scratch my head because 2012 TCats is one way to probably extent this line ten waves and Jorma isn't in my top 5 2012 characters. Meanwhile, those elephants would probably sell just for being big, chunky elephant figures.
So I dipped my toes in this line awhile back with Lion-O and was, sadly, underwhelmed. I ended up selling it a couple of weeks later. I think I had hyped it up too much in my head and it just didn't live up to the hype. Anyway, I figured I was done with the line...then the toy Lion-O, Mumm-Ra, and Cheetara were announced. I adored the toys as a kid, even more so than the cartoon. So, I figured I give Lion-O a second chance. Picked one up last month, and I have to say, I am very happy with the figure. Sure, the colours are garish as hell compared to the toon version, and it doesn't have anywhere near as many accessories, but just something about it makes me enjoy the figure so much more. I think I might be in for toy versions of the main cats. Have any more been announced past the initial 3?
The toy versions weren't that well received by fans. There's currently no future waves planned in the classic LJN style.
Actually, Flynn said in the interview that DPuff linked that their original plans were to space out one offs across waves but that they had such a positive reaction that they'll be doing another whole wave. The Youtube reviews are all glowing. Although most didn't notice that Lion-O is now pinless and I think every reviewer I saw seemed to think he's the same sculpt as wave 1 Lion-O. (He's not. He is the same as Hook Mountain and Mirror Lion-O but these share zero parts with wave 1 Lion-O. In fact, none of the pegs that connect joints are the same. And the fabric wrinkles and muscles are all subtly different.) From what I can recall from various Flynn interviews: They're probably not going to re-do any figures that were colored similar to the animation in the vintage toyline. Panthro was given as an example by Flynn of one they wouldn't do a toy deco of. But when someone pointed out that Panthro is essentially the last character that hasn't been re-done with pinless joints, Flynn immediately seemed to reconsider and said that might justify a toy colors Panthro.
yep, this is correct. They are getting a good response for the Ljn repaints, and want to do more, not less.
I loved the show growing up but never got any of the toys (although promises were made...and broken, lol). I have my Super7 toy variant Lion-O MISB and wouldn't mind picking up another one down the road just to open. It'll probably never happen but I wouldn't mind seeing figures from Super7's older waves being redone in pinless fashion.
I'm pretty sure Lion-O and Panthro were the only ones with pins. Lion-O has had multiple releases on the new pinless body, just not in normal colors. Although I'd kind of hope they make him a bit more orange than the wave 1 version or Mattel. Those looked dingy to me.
How would you guys like to see them do a regular colors pinless Lion-O, if at all? I assume that would use the new mold for Lion-O from Mirror Lion-O/Hook Mountain. Meaning likely none of the Mattel accessories would be included unless remade from scratch. Personally, I'd prefer it if they didn't follow Mattel's color choices quite so religiously and had more contrast between the blues of his costume -- and the very faintly purplish tint seen in some video transfers and comic books. I'd also like to see it include all the "standard" accessory variants for the Lion-O 2.0 body. Style pose, both directionally hinged sets of gripping hands, fists. All four claw shields from Mirror Lion-O, including the grapple. Standard head seen on Hook Mountain and Mirror. Both versions of the sword of omens. Maybe to help sell it, make it a $65 figure with an additional tray: A bright "lit up" sword with effects and new "the call" heads for the Thundercats with glowing eyes. It was always going to be tricky how to release the glowing eyes Thundercats portraits since they'd released a couple. I think the best way would be 7 new sculpts for the main cats and Snarf. If you have the older versions, those stay unique that way. With Panthro? I'd like to see some different accessories to help make it feel worthwhile to own both. Alternate smiling/smirking head. Flared style pose hands like he often was in combat. He also used his hands a lot when talking so maybe gestural hands or one-finger-pointing-up "I have a suggestion" hands. Nunchucks with gas and energy effects. Honestly, I'm going to take heat for this but I think a second Panthro is a perfect place for a Thundercats Roar reference. Namely, the Gravity Gauntlets: Gravity Claws Red and blue mechanical gloves that shoot green energy. As always, I'm not in favor of the TONE of Thundercats Roar. I just think its gadgets and new characters should be adapted into a more serious form alongside the vintage Thundercats. I'm almost always a fan of something close to the original version of a thing reabsorbing all the spinoffs -- good, bad, or ugly -- and adapting anything new from those spinoffs back into the original style.

I'm honestly ok with the cats as they currently are. Pinless would be nice, but I don't find the pins all that jarring on these guys. I wouldn't mind Cheetara being a little more voluptuous, I guess...haha...
I can see that or people who want the weird chest anatomy they had in the cartoon. Personally, I want something that goes with my existing Mirror Lion-O.
