A custom a year or so in the making, which I recently just completed ^_^

    IMG_20200921_195714.jpg
    Thunder Clash!

Thunderclash himself uses the MMC Thunderclash as a base, with the head swapped from MMC's Machine Wars Optimus (I had Thunder Clash, Pun-3X had MW optimus... both of us wanted the head the other toy had... so swapping and painting occurred and now we're both set ^_^ )
I then painted the sort of mustard yellow parts with gundam gold, and spray painted his more maroony-red to be closer to the red of his trailer
He then got stickered up from Reprolabels' set for the MMC Thunder Clash and the 'Convert Battle core optimus to Thunder Clash' set. I plan to have him have the Elite Guard Autobot symbol once I can get a good sticker set OF Elite Guard symbols (Wings Thunder Clash is my default for the guy ^^ )
    IMG_20200921_194532.jpg IMG_20200921_195351.jpg IMG_20200921_195355.jpg IMG_20200921_195401.jpg IMG_20200921_195414.jpg IMG_20200921_195431.jpg

I always loved his Trailer of Overkill Death, so I took a Thunder Clash trailer and parts swapped all the GPS parts out with parts from the Machine Wars Optimus Trailer.
All the parts were painted to match (mostly just taking MW Optimus' black trailer parts and gundam golding them. I also purchased replacement missiles from Shapeways, dyed them black, then painted them gold
The side-panels of the trailer are actually MWOpt's as the primary hinges were GPS and I couldn't get them to work loose due to how they attached, and then were painted white with a dark blue stripe
    IMG_20200921_193909.jpg IMG_20200921_193920.jpg IMG_20200921_193952.jpg IMG_20200921_194003.jpg

and that takes us to why I classed this as a heavy rather than a repaint...

I wanted Thunder Clash to be able to tow his trailer, and I despise parts-forming so I wanted to have the trailer door remain attached/become a ramp rather than parts-forming... AND I wanted to get rid of the parts-forming rear panels for the MMC Thunder Clash

So I put the rear-panels to work to make the trailer hitch, putting them on TC and measuring the distance between them and putting 4 sheets of styrene between panels to make them a single piece. I used an arm from a Red Alert to connect the trailer to the new hitch. The styrene 'spacer' int he middle means that it fits perfectly onto Thunder clash in vehicle mode
    IMG_20200921_194335.jpg IMG_20200921_194350.jpg IMG_20200921_194329.jpg IMG_20200921_194401.jpg
Using the arm allowed for the trailer-hitch to pivot and also swing up and down to get into position as a 'control panel' in the Trailer's battle-mode. I do want to eventually find/get some 'computer screen' stickers to put on the 'inside' of the trailer hitch which ends up perfectly at torso level on Thunder Clash in the trailer's battle-mode, letting him hold it to control his trailer's weapons
    IMG_20200921_193727.jpg IMG_20200921_193834.jpg IMG_20200921_193858.jpg
The trailer door had the original pale-blue and dark-blue hinge of the G1 Thunder Clash side-panels used to make a ramp hinge for the trailer door, with the greebled section of dark blue forming the new 'bottom half' of the trailer... the trailer-door can now swing down and open in trailer mode, and forms a stabilizing foot in battle mode
    IMG_20200921_194232.jpg IMG_20200921_194145.jpg IMG_20200921_194305.jpg IMG_20200921_194315.jpg

All in all, it was a lot of work (and a lot of hunting for parts at Botcon's in the case of the two trailers, Shapeways for the missiles, Reprolabels for the stickers, and a very cool best friend for the toy head-swap and help in painting ^^) but I'm super happy with the result in what is, for me at least, my perfect Thunder Clash
    IMG_20200921_195652.jpg

...anybody else get the Thundercats theme song stuck in your head on endless repeat with this character or is it just me? XD

I used to do something similar with the Botcon Thunderclash and the UKG1 trailer (sold the original cab/UKG1 Thunderclash, kept the trailer)

Thunderclash/MW Optimus had the best Prime trailer out of any line

    thank you! ^^

Yeah up until MMC's version came out, I was using the botcon TC as well... it was just always limited by the fact that I don't like the Super Link rodimus mold all that much XD
Also, yes, Thunderclash has such an AMAZING trailer, I had to make use of it ^^ I love how compact it gets for trailer mode, and how it just EXPLODES into the Overkill of DEATH for battle-mode

Of course, I've something of a curse when it comes to customs... When I make them, either as I'm finishing up or just AFTER I finish up... an official or 3rd party toy of whatever/whoever I just customed tends to be made
Annnd it happened with this guy too XD
But while the 3rd party TC is pretty cool, he doesn't have the 'right' trailer for me... which honestly was about 99% of the point of doing this custom sooooo XD

The fanshobby one is missing the main cannon/third leg of the base. If I ever get it, I'll be customizing that base mode to be more accurate

    Elegantly simple, BUT EXTREMELY nice.

This is awesome and very well done. As nice as MMC's Thunderclash is, no Thunderclash toy is ever truly complete without a trailer that is also a giant gun turret! The heritage must be kept! Go BIG or go HOME!

    Very nicely done!

    Thank you both! ^^

*nods* Yeah, that was part of the reason I passed on it (well that and my custom was almost 100% done XD )
I will admit I have my g1 TC still (suffering horribly from GPS, poor thing) and I have debated trying to see if I can get the g1 noggin to fit the MMC toy as I actually unironically ADORE the g1 head ^^
If I do manage to get it to work, I'll update this thread (don't think I can though, I think the head might be too big, sadly

Thank you so much! ^^ Yeah TC needs his Trailer of Overkill Death darn it all, he's just not THUNDER CLASH without it, darn it all XD

It should fit.... might look odd for proportions, though. Mmcs thunderslash is a good sized figure

Yup he is pretty big... ultra class or a bit bigger I think
But g1 TC/MWopt has an infamously huge noggin, which is why I'm not sure if it'd fit on the MMC, might be too big for the storage space and the very limited swing space with the backpack and the like (although I do think it'd fit proportions wise, overall)
    ^^
right now I'm just in the 'hmmm, well let's carefully chop off the noggin since poor old TC is like 90% dead from GPS, and see if it'll fit/work
    Experimentation! XD

    And the answer is!!!!!

    PXL_20200928_232334484.jpg

    Yes.
Yes, the G1 head fits on the MMC Thunder Clash ^^

I had to shave down the side panels a bit, but other than that (and making it a ball jointed head) that was all I needed to do to mod the head itself
    PXL_20200928_232400104.jpg PXL_20200928_232419711.jpg PXL_20200928_232436394.jpg PXL_20200928_232508877.jpg
I used the ball socket from a junker FoC Voyager Grimlock's dino arm that I had for the head (it's a very odd sized ball joint, on a side note) and filled in the gap with Apoxie Sculpt
    The apoxie sculpt is currently unpainted as I haven't been able to mix up a blue that matches well enough^^;;

I did have to make more changes to the MMC toy than I did the ehad to have it fit, however.
I trimmed off the small 'stopper' nubs that are on the top part of the 'socket' so the head could swing in, and took off the top part of the 'brace' for the back panel
    PXL_20200928_232543047.jpg
that gave me the clearance for the head to be able to swing down and into the hollow (where it fills the ENTIRE cavity... also it has to go in so that it faces the chest with the back of the head facing out)
    PXL_20200928_232735571.jpg PXL_20200928_232745233.jpg
The fun part is that without the brace, I can now fold the back panel in all the way and thus the backpack folds up in closer to the back as well
    PXL_20200928_232508877.jpg PXL_20200928_232516642.jpg PXL_20200928_232824452.jpg PXL_20200928_232847232.jpg

I also took some scraps from the G1 TC, and used it to polish up/bulk up the 'trailer hitch' arm so it looked better and more finished
    PXL_20200928_233028174.jpg PXL_20200928_233031281.jpg PXL_20200928_233053416.jpg PXL_20200928_233102673.jpg

But all in all, I'm SUPER happy with this!
Having the G1 head really helps him look/feel like his own character, and I honestly just adore how the g1 head LOOKED in the first place so this worked out well. I like how little I needed to mod to get it to work as well

So, here he is, my Thunder Clash.
Really proud of how this came out, honestly. Makes me look forward to working on some of my other customs ^^
    PXL_20200928_233001899.jpg
...Now, what do I do with the MMC head...
