Yeah. I kinda forgot about that before I made this. It’d probably get more discussion there. If a mod stumbles upon this please feel free to move it.

ROTF Devastator wasn't a traditional combiner. Rather than being a number of robots transforming into vehicles/components of a bigger bot, he/it was a robot whose body split apart into different vehicles.

It didn't look like the films utilized traditional combining anyway, with the Transformers as organic machines and (consequently?) Optimus and Megatron receiving transplants of dead robot parts.

I did think ROTF Devastator looked monstrous and titanic though. I only wish it had more time to fight more Autobots, did away with the wrecking balls and was a uniform yellow color.

They never did get combining right at the time. I think it was cause they weren’t ready to make those kind of toys so that affected the films and what came out. So more weird designs were made and thus they didn’t seem like they we’re trying to make individual robots. PCC shows this pretty well.

I feel this design would be better though. It’s less involved and has a more classic formation with the limbs. Five member style. It seems more believable that this would also be a kickass construction/deconstruction unit. And yeah a nice unified yellow colour would be nice. Maybe supplement the purple with black and I’d be okay with it.
And that’s really why I want this made. It feels like the live action devastator we should’ve gotten for the most part. It’s a fun and unique little thing that I’d gladly like to own in my home. But really just keep it all yellow.

This thing looks totally awesome. the best thing about it is the badass yet absolutely impractical vehicle types; how are you going to actually build anything with a tree harvester, two mining vehicles and two military engineering vehicles?

Yeah, the head gives me more of a Pacific Rim vibe than Transformers.

Ah yes, you mean something more looking like a traditional combiner than the trash monster monstrosity we got in RoTF.

Devastator was one of my favorites in G1 and you have no idea how crushed I was when I saw that abomination on screen because they were this close to greatness in having a proper combiner fight and yet the fucked it up royally.

I mean, I'm not really crazy about this design but it's better than RoTF.

I like ROTF Devy, but this is pretty sweet too. Though, why not just use construction vehicles like the other Devys??

Pfft, I never actually took into account how impractical / random the vehicle selection was. :lol

Still a better design than the literal clusterfuck that was in ROTF.

Yeah, since Bay was going for this weird "Decepticons are bizarre slobbering insectoid monsters" vibe, I guess we were always destined to get a really weird hulkamaniac Devastator. But the real loss is that there were no individual bots in the movie, Devastator was just one guy that split into 6 alt modes.

Bays idea would work and be totally fine if that's what the Decepticons were, but the problem is that they were applying a ton of movie monster / alien tropes to these Japanese mecha influenced characters.

If they did that for potential Insecticons then perhaps there'd be something to it, but otherwise... it's just making the movie Decepticons into every other movie bad guy aliens.

Here’s a take that’s hot enough for this thread; I actually do like ROTF Devastator. In fact, I like all Devastators, this one included.
