Wondering if Cate will return as Hela, perhaps as the MCU's version of Death aka the consort of Thanos? She certainly kept mentioning that she was the goddess of death enough times. I think that would be a neat tie-in with Thor: Ragnarok, but if Death is indeed a separate entity, that'd be cool too. Also, Hela reminds me of that one video gamer in MMORPG's who keeps spamming that singular, overpowered attack (conjuring and throwing blades of death everywhere) over and over again, destroying everyone with it.
yeah, i still don't get the knives thing. was it because her character was dramatic and did things with flair? i'd imagine throwing knives and hoping they'd kill someone is a lot less efficient than just having a deadly touch or starting a new plague or something...
At least raising the dead Asgardians as her personal army of undead was a sufficiently "deity of death" thing to do. Also, shrugging off any and all wounds (like getting run through with a sword in the back) that would've been fatal to most anyone else. But yeah, I didn't quite get the whole unlimited throwing blades thing either (even if she was Odin's executioner) but you can't deny it's effective. Spoiler Now that Thor and company helped bring about Ragnarok and Asgard has been destroyed by Surtur (hurray for long lasting consequences and actual character arcs/development!), the basis for Hela's power is gone and presumably she should be dead, but no body, no death, especially for a primordial deity, right? Personally, I think Hela and Thanos would make for a formidable pair.
I don't know if you can count that the same way though. LOTR (book and movie) wasn't three sequential works like a lot of other works are, it was one work split in 3 parts.
That's interesting, I was not aware Tolkien wrote the whole saga at once and then found appropriate points to split it up. Learn something new every day. I saw it again with some family today, and I'm prepared to say its a damn good flick and while the comedy lands 99% of the time, I can pick perhaps 1 or 2 instances where allowing the dramatic payoff to occur without the comedic beat would have been better. It doesn't ruin the movie or invalidate every other comedy beat landing like a 1-2 from Muhammad Ali, just a couple of times where restraint would have yielded the better result. Other than that, no complaints. Goldblum is oddly magnetic as the Grandmaster, Taika (the director) is a lot of fun as Korg and Ruffalo getting to let loose as the Hulk for a bit was a good move. The best new addition is Valkyrie; whatever else can be said about her, Tessa Thompson has got the swagger and charisma to swan around in that white getup of hers and make me believe that she used to be one of Asgard's elite warriors. Spoiler I hope Jamie Alexander's absence means that Lady Sif and Valkyrie get to buddy it up during Infinity War, that's a double act I'm very keen to see
World War II paper shortages kept Lord of the Rings from being a single volume book until only recently. Personally I like my single volumes more, because it's easier to hold. The more cynical analysis of Return of the King was that it didn't really have any competition at the Oscars that year. I know I personally prefer Two Towers : P I think my favorite thing about Valkyrie is that I no longer have to associate Jack Sparrow with Johnny Depp.
As (at first) a morally ambiguous, walks-at-a-slant functioning alcoholic with a heart of gold, I definitely saw a little bit of Captain in her.
Some of my favorite parts: Spoiler Hulk walking out of the hot tub and Thor's reaction to what he is seeing. Hela giving this big speech infront of the Asgardian army only to have the one dude reply, "Whoever you are, we will stop you!" Every scene with Grandmaster, but especially the one where he melts the dude and is complaining about stepping in it. Thor's story about Loki turning into a snake The Doctor Strange visit The computer on the Quinn Jet not allowing Thor access, but then called Banner the "Strongest Avenger." The dumb rock dude just letting Loki lead them. Thor's discussion with Surtur while his chains kept spinning and then his quote when he summoned his hammer.
Given that Return of the King was the best movie of that year, of course it didn't have any competition. I do agree that Two Towers is also my favorite of the three, but all three of them should have been given the Oscars.
I thought it would've been hilarious when Spoiler Hulk got out of the hot tub, you heard a thud hit the ground but that would probably be too much for a Marvel movie.
A really fun movie. Best time I’ve had watching a film in a while. But man- a lot of the VFX were sub par. You really get an idea just how much of the movies are minimal blue screen sets. Many compositing scenes just were’t Integrated into the backgrounds that well, And some of the conversing Hulk shots just looked bad. I never thought i’d Catch myself saying this but sometimes a film can have too many vfx shots for its own good.
