Well, I'm going to start whittling my collection down and I'm going to start first by eliminating repaints of figures I'm not that hot on. Some I know which ones I am ditching, others, not so much. I look to my fellow fans to influence my decision. Note, I will be posting in this thread every so often with new choices, so it's not limited to this first instance.

First up:
Energon Jetfire or Energon Overcast
Let's face it, this is a really weak mold and it has a nice alt mode, and is good for legs, but overall, the bot mode is weak. So who gets the axe in my collection, the original or the repaint?

I'm leaning towards Overcast because I like his colors more, but there's some weird attachment to the original scheme as it seems more "jetfirey"

 

I'd say keep overcast, his color scheme is better looking than jetfire's.

 

I agree. Besides, you've got Skyblast, right? How much more Jetfirey do you need?

 

I say drop Overcast. The red on Jetfire is too sexy.

 

I still don't understand why everybody has a hate-on for the Energon Jetfire mold. He has no neck. Wow. Suddenly that missing point of articulation makes him the worst figure ever  .

Otherwise, he's got a good vehicle mode, solid and unique transformation, decent PL modes, a fairly well-proportioned 'bot mode, good articulation (minus the neck). My only beef is that the shuttle wings are connected to the booster pod, rather than the shuttle component. Well that, and the gun's trigger is in the worst possible place.

 

'cause Armada Jetfire slaughters the Energon version all around IMHO. My Energon version also looks and feels as if it was made of inferior plastic, the head does indeed suck greatly, and he's quite wobbly-feeling as well. Pieces also like to pop off while I'm transforming him. Go figure....other than that, he's....okay....

 

I really like E. Jetfire. I do kind of like the colors on Overcast, but I would stick with the original if I had to chose. I kinda wish I had gotten Overcast too though...

 

Well one, that's not really a topic of discussion here, and two, I(me, myself, not you) am not too keen on him.

I'd say keep Overcast, I like him better combined with Ironhide repaint than their original colour schemes.

 

I did the same thing and kept Overcast. Of course I still have Jetfire, but he's in the selling box.

 

I'd go for Overcast. I have both and Overcast is hands down my favourite. It's just such a superior paint to the original.

If you're looking for an investment, I'd keep Overcast, since that one wasn't easy to find and isn't as common as the original version of the mold. In terms of toy quality, I'd say it's close to a tie. Jetfire's got some stability issues that Overcast doesn't, but Overcast has that one glaring asymmetric paint application that's bugged the hell out of me since I bought the toy. However, the darker colour scheme on Overcast looks better, weird paint application aside. Taking all that into consideration, I'd vote to keep Overcast.

 

To be more accurate, I have the Superlink version with the right paint aps, so no asymetrical paint issues here. I never considered investment as I don't collect to invest, but I suppose if I decide to sell my collection later in life, he might fetch more.

Well, looks like I'm keeping overcast, many of you reaffirmed notions I already had, so he's a keeper. Someone at work was interested in Jetfire so I'll probably give it to him for a few bucks. As I sift through my collection I'll post more this or that questions in this thread. 'Til next time.
