Everyone, relax. BOTH posters were designed in-house by the SAME art & marketing studio - BLT Communications. They are one of the largest companies that are hired to design movie posters and marketing collateral, and two of their current commissions include AOE and DOTPOTA. Fact. Confirmed. Obviously all that happened here is that the same company worked on both of these. There's also a good chance that the Apes poster was done first considering how many they've been rolling out in their character campaigns for much longer than AOE has been. That, and the fact that the Apes poster is actually a composite DESIGN vs. the AOE one which is more or less a glorified screen grab just with some text thrown on top.
A monkey with a gun on a horse? Optimus Prime with a sword on Grimlock? I know which one I want to see.
The latter is at least more realistic than the former. Considering we are apes and have been riding horses for about 6000 years. I will be seeing Apes in the theatre. Other one maybe... on demand...
Truth be told I might see it in the theatres because of my wife... she is the Transformers movie fan. I prefer my movies to have a bit more substance. Like movies with apes riding horses weildiing machine guns
I'm a fan of the movies, while as you said, they lack substance, and they have quite a few faults. I still manage to find them entertaining.
Not really so rediculous when you realize that the apes road horses in the original film and in the French novel. Im pretty sure they didnt copy Optimus Prime...
Both are epic posters. I personally am too used to the teaser poster close up on Caesar, though. Now I want Caesar riding a horse to fight alongside Optimus riding Grimlock.
The new apes films are overrated. I love the old ones. I remember when my mom told me about them several years ago. The new ape films look plain and boring. I was expecting more in the James Franco one, but the climax (after the apes escape) was a little underwhelming. This film looks flat out dull. I feel like people will call any movie awesome nowadays. Godzilla was flat out boring and apes looks the same.
Chimp with a shotgun has endless caption possibilities. "This is my boomstick!" "Get off my lawn" "You ain't dating my daughter" "Damn your murderin' hides! Meet your maker!" "I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum" "Hasta la vista, baby"
Well if I see an ape that's got a gun and a horse and can tear me apart I am not going around it. Ever see the video with the ak47 and chimp?
So basically what I'm seeing is a common movie poster idea being used for two movies in the same year. Movie fans are grasping at a lot of straws today.
Common concept is common. That's a battle I'd like to see though. Dino Riders and MLP (Monkey Likes Pony). On some channels it's still newsworthy...
