So i haven't since the end of summer, but now i'm thinking about catching up or at least getting some TFs now that i have a little dough (enough for a few deluxes- either universe or animated). So whats the "hot" tfs in stores right now?? (I'm very behind on the times, sad story)

There are excellent toys in both lines. What are you looking for? G1 reference, show reference, character reference, good toy overall or some combination there of? This will help tons.

Do yourself a favor and get the remaining Universe figures (particularly the Legends latest wave w/Cosmos, Rodimus, Warpath and Wheelie), Cyclonus and Inferno while you can. Some of the best figures currently in that line.

If you're looking for Animated, the Target Exclusives are out with the two pack of Purple Animated Shockwave and Sunstorm. You can also still find Animated Grimlock. Those are the best in that line, and the most suggested. Animated Shadow Blade Megatron is also a definite must if you missed the first round of him, hes a Voyager class, but so worth the price.

    Hope that helps!

    Here are some I'd recommend.

    Animated:

Deluxe Blurr( Very nice update and has a very nice G1 feel to him.)
Voyager Shockwave (The robot to robot conversion is really entertaining.)
Voyager Grimlock (Though it's much like the seekers once you have him you need the full set.)
Deluxe Snarl(Very cool transformation and is a good edition to the dinobots set)
Deluxe Swoop ( A very articulated figure and I highly recommend him.)

    Transformers Universe:

Voyager Inferno (One of the best universe 2.0 toys out there.)
Deluxe Hound ( Wow, I can not recommend this figure enough.)
    Deluxe Cyclonus( See Hound)
Deluxe Galvatron ( A bit strange and parts like to pop out but a great display piece especially with Cyclonus.)

    Fixed.

Dude, you owe yourself to get Universe Cyclonus and Hound. Two of the very best molds in the entire line.

    My suggestions are Ani G1 Shockwave,Ani Sunstorm,Ani Blurr,Uni Hound,and Uni Cyclonus.

Those are the absolute best figures from the lines IMHO.

Don't discount the Universe Legends, they are all winners. Brawn is my favorite, excellent update of this G1 fav.

Legends were the most pleasant surprise of the Universe line IMO.

I'm a bit biased, but by that alone... go with Cyclonus & Hound. If you can spare it, spring for Inferno as well.

Inferno should be pretty widespread at retail. You might be lucky to still find Cyclonus & Hound at retail though.

Or at least, that's how it is up here.
