Was walking back to campus and looked up at the moon and saw this MASSIVE white ring up in the sky. The moon's in the direct centre and a ring with a very large circumfrance (in comparison to the moon) around it. Anyone else seeing this? I'd try to take a photo, but between the light pollution, it being night time, and not having a tripod I'm not sure it would work. **edit: Just went out to try taking a photo anyway, but it's mostly gone now. Only a little bit of the NE bit of showing, but clouds are moving in and it's not easy to see.
I saw one once here in Tucson. It was due to ice in the upper atmosphere refracting light back down. It was at night, AND during a full moon. It was eerily beautiful.
I once saw a lunar halo back in January of 2002, when I was still living in San Jose. It was the first time I ever saw one. I was very spooked and excited at once, just by the very sight of it.
It always is a weather balloon. Now, how do you explain the weird "weather balloon" that comes out of my ass?
