Some use the Internet to gain a little bit of momentum and as a little bit of authority. One might suggest those crowing and shouting down others might struggle to form real life friendships. Just saying.

@Sixo, quietly terrified? I was bricking it.

Speaking of kids, this happened today. We got given a lot of chocolate to the kids for Easter. There is an open egg in the conservatory. Eldest is trying to be stealthy getting in there.

    'Where are you going?'
'I just want to show mummy something.'
'Don't go in there. I know what you want to show mummy.'
*look of indignation, how could he possibly know my plan?*
'I just, I want, I just want to show mummy what I want for a snack!'
'I know what you want for a snack. DO NOT GO IN THERE.'
    'But, but, but...'

    Ahh kids. Gotta love them.

well I think his reaction to my joke in the sightings thread is proof of that:rolleyes:

last night my eldest two (4 and 2) were running around shouting "drivers win!" Then got their toy deep sea divers and changed it to "divers win!"
James Cordon has a lot to answer for...

I don't know what this Cordon is, but it sounds toon accurate.

Also, hurray for kids shouting and playing at night my lucky friend. I'm trying to think of a better sound to hear, but, nope.

Hyup, that's yer man there. I actually posted that Stereotype to his face when he took a humorous post of mine to task. His retort was a couple of YouTube videos explaining the difference between international humours, typically failing to see the irony that demonstrated he should know the difference at his end from the off!

Really, why can't he just hold his hands up and say "Sorry, didn't mean for my post to be taken as antagonistic, but what is the point of this thread?"
Oh well, perhaps all our names will go on the list...

My Apollyon hasn't broke.....possibly because I have barely touched it, let alone considered transforming it :D

I have now removed it from my MP Decepticon shelf and it'll go back in the box when I remember where it's stored. So my Decepticons are down to MP Shockwave, Soundwave, Laserbeak & Buzzsaw, FT Shockwave and MMC Ravage.

New Doctor being another white guy = Good. It's a TV show with an established formula of over 50 years, not a soapbox for diversity activists to preach.

There will always be groups of people that won't get adequately represented in TV/movies, you just have to suck it up and get on with things, no point having a chip on the shoulder about it.

As someone with mental illness I'd quite like to see more positive characters in pop culture but that doesn't fit the present agenda, we're apparently all potential killers or making the whole thing up because we don't want to work

It's not right, but that's just how it is, most people in that kind of situation haven't got time to kick off about it as they're living their lives as best they can, not being represented in pop culture really isn't important in the grand scheme of things.

Just the thought of dusting this makes my shoulders twitch.

Sort of looks like Magnus and Grimlock are kicking over Hot Rod.

    Pretty cool.

    ^ YES.

    I approve of this entirely.

Have to politely disagree with you there, @bcm77, especially as your rebuttal contains the kernel of why mainstream representation is important.

I think that's remarkably easy to say when - and I'm presuming here - you're another white guy? All the groundwork has been put in place over the last few series to really inject the show with an exiting new life if the BBC and writers are brave enough to do it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not writing off Kris Marshall without giving him a chance like much of the internet (on paper, who on earth would have chosen Matt Smith? Yet he was incredible!) but I think it would be fantastic to follow through on the established canon and do something new with the Doctor. Olivia Colman has been my top choice since they announced Capaldi's departure, and that's got nothing to do with 'soapboxes' or 'activism' or 'preaching'. She'd be amazing, yet presumably is discounted purely as she's a woman, even though we've now seen Timelords change their gender. And that is absolutely worth making some noise about.

Morning folks - do any of you require some accessories to complete a G1 Hound! Found these on a clearout, rather give first dibs to someone here, PM me if you need them. IMG_6215.JPG

Yes, I understand the University of Alabama had a similarly phrased argument about their admissions policy right up until the mid-60s. Well remembered.

Persistence and supporting the little guy can pay off: finally found Part 8 Hearts of Steel in a not-local Newsagents, just in before the next one comes out tomorrow/weds. I should expand my walks more often. Anyone know what the contents of 9 and 10 are going to be? I'm far too lazy to go thread diving and try and find out.

    Seeaich,
    Fair enough.

    banjoted,
I can't speak for recent Doctor Who as I haven't watched it since 2011, I just think it's a bit ridiculous how the Doctor's race and gender appears to have become more important than telling good stories, or at least that's the impression I get as someone who sees a lot of comments on social media about the subject.

If there's a believable reason within the context of a story to change something then OK, but too many of these kind of changes seem to be demanded for no other reason than to tick a box.

+1 to this - representation is massively important, both for individuals from underrepresented groups, and for society as whole. Our views are subtly (and not so subtly) influenced by things we see and getting better representations of different groups is super important for all of us to normalise that anyone can be anything, which is still a difficult idea for many people.

In fact, I think one of the reasons I enjoy bullshit emo young adult sci-fi and fantasy is that it is a genre that works really hard at this area, and if kids are being brought up with inclusive stories it's a sliver of hope for the future.

Diversity isn't a difficult concept for me, I just think that with only a finite amount of time in the world it makes it very difficult for everyone to be catered to on TV or in movies or other media.

And instead of hijacking long established characters and changing them why not create all new ones?
