    It's complicated.
Some of the first few episodes are quite painful to watch. Too much pilates.

There are many interesting concepts throughout, and character development is... not what you would expect.
And the ending, the Final Transformation, is IMO the best possible ending for G1 as a whole.

So, yeah, you should watch Beast Machines - but maybe not one episode at a time.

UT collectors can end up with a decent BM selection, thanks to Universe

When it comes to Character Evolution in Beast Machines...

...there's 'evolution', and there's 'not even watching the previous series'. The writers went for the second option - and, on the whole, I'm glad they did. Even if it took everything I loved away from my favourite character in all of Transformers. Seriously, a Megatron who isn't camp and fun? What's the point? What's left (except him being the most effective villain in the series as a whole, I suppose).

I liked the changes to Primal and Cheetor. Primal was actually a character in the series, as opposed to A Prime, and he changed as it went on. That was good. Cheetor went from being the useless 'kid-appeal' character to the one who was talking sense. That was excellent. Blackarachnia was very different, but... you can put that down to the memory-wipe giving her back her original programming free from Tarantulas' interference. Rattrap was also there. As were Botanica and Edward Furlong, although frankly no-one would have noticed if they'd been left on the cutting-room floor.

The main issue I had, character-wise, was with the Vehicon Generals. Two of them, anyway. I didn't buy Rhinox's 'heel turn' at all. Not one bit. Not even slightly earned. And Silverbolt's guilt - about what? He was brought back after the conquest was finished, when the only enemies were the time-travelling Maximals, and none of them had been killed. All he'd done is chase them down corridors, which makes his emo-pangs seem massively out of proportion.

If they'd made it so that they'd been sucked into the Time Vortex from Doctor Who along with Megatron, been reformatted then, and both unwillingly taken part in the conquering of Cybertron I would have bought Rhinox being so broken, and Silverbolt's guilt.

I will say, though, having watched it for the first time very recently - it looks great. At least the AI upscaled version I watched on YouTube did. I was repeatedly struck by how well it holds up (and how it's just on a different level, visually, to Beast Wars.)

...all this with the caveat, of course, that I have a memory like... one of whatever those things that you use to drain rice are.

I did not! How much did it cost you in the end? Still maybe cheaper to go with Baba then.

Before you know it, the sickness will compel you to buy old mighty max stuff. Loved that when i was young.

congrats on making it through examegeddon dude!

So many features in a deluxe. I used to have the green one. Loved it.

I didn't know about super cross, but that is a prime design I could get behind.

The delightful folks at kapow have got magmatron to me and i couldn't be more pleased. The original was my hands down favourite BW toy.

This guy.... takes what was great about the original, added more articulation and brought him to a size class appropriate for a walking dino orgy.

    Try harder ape!
    1000025868.jpg

Not having the spring loaded missles actually makes this better, because the OG used to shoot the blades out a bit too easily

Where is that so called power of the prime?!
    1000025867.jpg

Dino modes are suitability chunky and hide the robot parks with great effect! Landsaur is a bit hard to get altogether but he looks great when done.

You don't deserve a crown. I'll have to cut a few ear holes, but it's mine now...
    1000025870.jpg

Transformation is somewhat faithful to the original but a little more in depth. I enjoyed the challenge.

Hasbro continues the trend of absolutely smashing it with the commander class. Can't wait to see what's next.

Just got back from the 40th event screening; about half full at the start, about a quarter full by the time episode four started. I enjoyed it myself, bit of cozy campy fun, but it's definitely a hard sell for a lot of people.

I'd pay £5 for the Scavenger head from Selects Antagony if you'd be prepared to split it out? Alternatively, if someone else was interested in just Antagony it would work out at £23 ;)

I don't think anyone left the screening I was in but it couldn't have been more than 20 people.

I think I appreciated watching the episodes no distractions, no phone or multitasking like I would at home in front of the telly. Made me remember why I wore out all my VHS tapes as a child and how I fell in love with Transformers.

I would have preffered the first 3 episodes then maybe something documentary for 20 mins. Longer chats with the actors or something because I really enjoyed the outtakes and listening to Frank Welker who obviously has a love for it all. Glad I didn't take the kid as I don't think they would have lasted the 4 episodes.

Happy that it should also pave the way for TF:TM to get a cinematic release in a couple years. The kid will be 5 or 6 then and ready to learn the same trauma I carried through my childhood (and still hold in adulthood).
