If someone who's main frame of reference is The Transformers: The Movie didn't like it then that bodes very well for me*!

    Absolutely.

*I'm sure it will be rubbish. But if it can be rubbish in a new way that would be some kind of progress.

Hot Rod almost gets a pass as he should be conspicuous. Dude has flames on his chest, after all. Same with Tracks and Sunstreaker... their personalities demand they stand out.

It just falls apart when you get to "Japanese police car but in the US" Prowl and literally everyone else.

I was dangerously close to pulling the trigger on MMC Carnifex today. Then I discovered the existence of Fans Hobby Double Evil. This gave me pause for thought long enough to abort the whole idea, which may have saved my life because my wife would've flayed me. Report over.

I have both and I can honestly say that unless you're a serious IDW Wreckers Saga/MTMTE fanboy, get Double Evil.

I enjoy, defend, despise and adore the live action movies in equal measure, but this is probably the most apprehensive I've ever been about the direction of that side of the franchise and its potentially larger implications.

I don't like G.I. Joe as a rule, not back in the 80s and certainly not now. I've only ever had time for it when Scioli did that completely batshit, utterly brilliant crossover that bastardised both franchises in gloriously unhinged fashion and completely polarised opinion at the time, but that's never going to be what we get on the big screen and nor should it be.

What I will say is that it feels like no coincidence at all that Skybound's heavily advertised shared universe, the return of John Warden to Transformers and G.I. Joe and this announcement have all recently come about together. Lining up their ducks, as it were. If and when the Reactivate videogame shows its face again, only with the military element now being the Joes, remember my foresight. I'll buy a lotto ticket that day as well.

On the flipside, Transformers One sounds like it could and should be the big budget facelift and restart that captures a new generation of fans, something which the brand genuinely needs. Only they're still trying to pin it to the Bayverse? Fucking whoppers.

With regards to TFOne, people complaining that a piece of Transformers media, the toy based franchise by a toy based company, is targeting younger people will never not make roll my eyes so far back in my head I can see my own brain damage.

I mean, my peeps, buddies, friends, amigos, the first 3 episodes of the 1984 cartoon were created specifically to promote the toys. Specifically taking of Ronald Reagan's loosening of advertising laws. That's why you get shit like Autobots flying and then subsequently forgetting to do that after it got turned into a "real" show due to its popularity since they needed to justify the whole 90% cars thing on one side. Or just because.

So people getting suprised and annoyed that the thing designed to exploit the deregulation of capitalism does a capitalism makes me chuckle. Not in a fun way. More in a "capitalism will kill us all" way.

Now if you'll excuse me I am waiting for a piece of plastic that takes the franchise I love with another franchise I enjoyed but got stomped by others to create a flying helicopter-rock so I can wallow in some deep synergistic hypocrisy.

I'm going to assume that any new TF media will be shit, then be pleasantly surprised if it isn't. :)

I always felt like the GI Joe stuff in the IDW comics was one of the lower points (not quite the rock bottom as when they shoved in MASK and Visionaries as well, tho), and I'm not keen on it in the new comics either.

Smacks of trying to use our bots as an IV to keep the Joes alive a lot of the time.

See, TFTM as a reference means G1 and Sunbow. Now, forgive me but I'm 99.999999% sure that Orion Pax has a face, and Megatron has a face.

Wtf is this guy smoking if 'not having a faceplate' is 'a choice'? It's like, completely canon...

In what way are you seeing that? The B-127 designation? I think that's actually clever, because they've gone D-16 for Megs. This way, it's more natural for Bee, and he (and Megs) can claim a 'real name', and yet it'll allow Bayverse fans to find a familiarity in something that is essentially G1.

Busy playing with Legends of the Microns Convoy & Megatron and Galaxy Force Starscream & Nitro Convoy and I think, on the whole, visually I prefer the 'Unicron Trilogy' to G1*. There, I've said it.

    Yep. Cheap Action Force rip-off.

"This movie is aimed at ten-year-olds! It should be more like this old movie aimed at ten-year-olds!"

As I've said before, get it right for eight-year-olds and you get it right for everyone. Get it right for forty-five-year-olds who still buy toys and even they won't like it.

*AG1, at least. I have a huge fondness for the 'Super Robot' excesses of Star Saber, Dai Atlas, Sky Garry, Super Megatron, and the like.

Absolutely this. The best 'family' movies of recent years have been ones that equally appeal to all ages - Puss in Boots the Last Wish, the Lego Movie...

A thought about the TF One stuff:

I've seen it mentioned a few times that Hemsworth is 'unrecognisable' in the role. If that's the case, why bother casting him at all? It piles on to my ongoing bugbear about good, expert voice actors losing out on big roles to more recognisable live-action names for nothing more than name recognition value, really. No harm to Hemsworth himself; just thinking in a general sense. The casting for Mutant Mayhem was a good example; a mish-mash of random famous people who didn't do an awful lot to justify their inclusion.

This is one of those stupid wee gripes, I know, but I'm someone who always feels good voice actors are underappreciated and in a lot of ways it's a quite specialised skill that is being eroded by the need for bigger names in everything.

Yes, I know. I'll shut the fluck up now.
