I’ve been asked to measure the balljoint on Cyclonus’ neck for a possible replacement head but I don’t know how I would best do that. The only tool I have is a tape measure and having tried that, the measurement doesn’t seem right. Can anyone help?

Just got a ShowZ invoice for the new JoyToy Mech that I can’t afford so I’ve had to bang one of the guitar pedals that I would rather not sell up onto Reverb, but I can’t think of anything else to sell. Ahhhhhh robits, you’ll be the death of me... :’O(

re: botropolis, very cool looking set and has a few micromasters and that countdown-esque rocket which go some way towards my goal of trying to get as many of the g1 toys i initially had before i sold them on ebay... but £80 is too much. the £60-odd from amazon us was too much, though i was contemplating. the £35 that my preorder has cost me by using the discount codes i got from amazon us customer support is definitely worth it tho*

also, just wanna say i am amazed by the kind of pics you can create with an SLR and the right software, despite it being a bright moon last night and this pic being shot directly above the tremendous light pollution of manchester city centre

There were a lot of unnaccounted-for stasis pods in the series if I recall, so I put the fossilised down to some weird protoform experiment by Tarantulas.

Was gonna say calipers are the only way to be accurate. But, it's the diameter of the ball, so in theory you can measure the hole in the head instead, right across the middle. It'll be slightly smaller than the ball, right?

Line up two thin, small items either side, gripped all together and measure the gap between them? That's makeshift calipers...

Wowsers! That's great! I had a crack at some a while back and got a nice-ish one of the milky way, but didn't get anything as detailed as that, more a slightly blurry wash of colour. I think a decent long lens/maybe a bigger sensor would help. What software are you using?

Seeing as I'd already unscrewed his head and able to borrow some calipers from the missus, here you go:

Depends on the edge of ball socket available, if it's not a 50/50 split in it the width could give too small a measurement, A-Teamed homebrew makeshift calipers might be the best bet still, if so.
A 5 Mil ball then? If I'm reading that right?

Also have to chime in with thanks to @Siege Fan and @MyTea Boc for the recent items!

Tonight I finally unwrap Super Megatron. That’s if I feel I’ve written enough.

Im getting guilt pangs just thinking about playing instead of work catch-up...

Using a Canon 6D, so full frame , with a 100mm prime lens. Have flashed Magic Lantern 3rd party firmware onto the camera because of the software intervalometer which makes taking a bunch of frames so easy.

Then used Sequator to stack the around 230 frames I got. Actually really straightforward.

How did you get your image tho? It's really good, better than any milky way shot ive gotten

That Botropolis pricing doesn't look too far out to me. Assuming they're considered as Selects, two Deluxes @ 20 each, two Micromaster Teams @ 15(?) each, leaves a tenner for the rocket. Not any sort of *deal*, of course. But not far off what we might have expected.

Ah, more frames is definitely something else I need to try. That was 25 + 15 with the lens cap on, then using DeepSkyStacker plus a fair bit of fiddling around in DXO with the output from that. Panasonic G9 with 15mm lens. I'm fairly lucky here that the sky is pretty clear, which helps.

Ah the skies around here are terrible .. which is why I was amazed with what I got last night! The nearest dark sky zones are like an hour away

I haven't tried any stuff like the bias frames with the lens cap on.. do you think it makes a big difference?
