I totally agree with your and Barry's sentiments. I think that's what Hasui-san was going for at the start; not slavish to the toy or the toon, but a nice marriage of the better aspects of each, as well as bringing the real world alt mode aspects over to the bot mode as well. I thought it was a good design philosophy. And yeah, since Takara's move towards slavish devotion to the over-simplistic wildly varying cartoon look for the MP line, the more ideal versions of the characters with detailed bot modes that carry over the better aspects of toon/toy/comic are represented in the Generations line. I'm happy for the latter, as Earthrise is what I wanted from my toys when I was thirteen and watching each new ep of the toon; it took them 35 long years to finally represent those characters in the mainline, but I'm glad they finally did. However, it saddens me that the MP line, which should be the ideal representation of these characters, has been marred by Takara's devotion to toon accuracy, an oxymoron if ever there was one.

Great read. Can't say I disagree with much of this because objectively you're spot on, not just with Scorponok but with the piecemeal nature of releasing accessory characters that back in the day came with the core figure as a set. On Scorponok, I remember seeing the first video review of him and calling for a copy of the toy to be sent to DNA Design for immediate upgrading.

That said, the loving visual nods to his toy, comic and animation counterparts, simplicity of his transformations at this size and the pure action figure element they managed to achieve with his articulation help outweigh what's missing for me out of the box. As does the knowledge that him being a blank slate in key areas means that the inevitable 3P upgrade kit will have me dig deep. Again.

    Strangely okay with that.

    Mug.

I opened up Doubledealer and gave the hip assembly a little nudge. There's a lot of empty space behind the black plastic indented piece that stops it doing its job properly, so I put some folded up paper in the gaps to push it forward and better allow the teeth of the hip ratchets to catch on its indent.

It's a subtle improvement, not as clicky tight as I could have made it but at the same time he doesn't flop about when handling now and I'm not concerned about too much pressure filing away at those ratchet teeth had I put in something stronger than paper. I kinda wanna put something stronger in..

However you're gonna do it, he comes apart at the torso via 2 very long screws and one little one, then you just remove the screw holding the waist together. The screw heads seem easy to strip so be aware of that.

It's more of an 'in hand feel' finishing touch over a functional improvement. You'll know yourself from owning him that even without doing it, the big footprint Doubledealer has means he stands well regardless of the loose hips.

    Happy belated birthday @DaftRaider!

Yeah sure, but won't be using the 4th bike connector for a little bit, at least until the youngest can cycle.

It's an amazing system but y k'know. Brtween it and the towbar installation it cost the same as a flight to Greece... which was exactly what it was, the refund for this years holiday flight!

I once built a Preowned Lego UCS star destroyer with missing bits where it was all mixed up to start with! Luckily lived in a house by myself at the time and the living room became a building area for 3 weeks!

Beast Wars Megatron riding his dragon form that also transforms into his Noble Beast Machines form that turns into a gun for the robot when Beast Wars Megatron becomes the head of G2 Megatron who is using a repaint of Blitzwing's body. We need more silliness like this.

I feel your pain... But sure it'll be worth it.

I built the UCS Imperial Shuttle last year. No numbered bags and 90% of the pieces are white. So much white!

I'll have the opposite problem soon... Before we move I have a Death Star and UCS Falcon, Shuttle and Slave1 to take apart and box to be transported safely. The Death Star will be the real bind as it's my son's and he wants to sell it so I need to go through the instructions backwards to make sure it's complete. Now that's a weekend (minimum) I'll never get back. Wouldn't be so bad if I thought the lad would help me!

Ahhhh it wasn't just me! I got the email confirmations through and my PayPal debited, so I guessed it was just the website being pants.

More Siege Ratchets being available I can live with, though for mould variety I'd prefer an Earthrise one alongside my Siege Ironhide.

IDW1 re-read just got to Chaos Theory. Such a step-up in quality, and Milne is making me want to track down that massive 3P stealth bomber Megatron!

    Great pic!

    :D

Yeah, I’d be really interested to see what a reimagined ‘low baggage’ transformers for the 2020s looks like.

Yup, but it's all just a rumour at the moment!

Precisely why I bought one last night in Tesco, the only question is to hang on to it for ages since it's series 1, or try to sell it during the excitement lol

It's just existing art he got from somewhere to illustrate the rumours.

    *Knocks on front door*
"Hello, sir, have you considered letting the power of Modelling Styrene into your life?"
"Stronger than card but not stronger than plastic, a segment of appropriately-shaped and sized tube or beam, and job's a good 'un!"

I did get my hopes up it would be Earth Mode Ratchet, and even though he may be due relatively soon, I reckon Siege could be a necessary buy for anyone who wants to do the full G1 sled for Ironhide and/or possibly Ratchet himself though there's a chance he might get a waldo arm launcher if he gets extra gear.
I think that's just the Earth Wars in-game character model as a placeholder image unfortunately to stand in due to him being rumoured for Wave 1 of Kingdom.

Now I've tested Chinese eBay seller I'll up the ante and order something over £10.
